Job DescriptionAre you an experienced Privacy and Data Governance professional looking to make a significant impact? Wise is seeking a highly skilled individual to join our growing Global Privacy team in London. This role offers the chance to shape the data landscape of a leading fintech company, ensuring data is secure, compliant, and drives business value.
This role reports directly to the Global Head of Privacy. You will play a key role in defining and implementing data governance frameworks and policies.You will partner with stakeholders in engineering, security, compliance, and business teams to embed best practices and safeguard personal and sensitive information throughout its lifecycle.
This role will be in London co-located with other members of the Privacy Team and the wider Wise Legal team.
What You’ll Work On
You will:
Collaborate with data engineers, architects, and product teams to embed privacy and governance controls into data pipelines and platforms and to automate and optimise data deletion workflows
Ensure organisational adherence to privacy regulations regarding data deletion and retention and maintain documentation of data deletion processes
Ensure data classification frameworks meet the standards of GDPR and other global privacy and personal data handling requirements applicable to Wise licensed entities globally
Work with data engineers and product teams to implement and manage automated enforcement tools for data classification and protection
Prepare regular reports for management and regulatory bodies as needed
Support risk management processes related to privacy and data governance
Drive adoption of data literacy and best practices across the organisation, acting as a subject matter expert and advocate for effective data management
Stay current with evolving privacy laws, industry standards, and best practices
Recommend and implement improvements to data governance frameworks
Support incident response on data related incidents
Skills
To succeed in this role, you should be a proactive, influential, and effective communicator. You'll be comfortable with ambiguity and making swift judgments. Detail-oriented, you'll manage competing priorities and diverse perspectives. Strong project management skills are essential, as is the ability to collaborate across teams to find practical solutions. You will have:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Law, Information Security, Computer Science, or a related field
6+ years of experience in privacy, data governance, or a related field, preferably within a regulated industry
In-depth knowledge of global privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, LGPD)
Proven ability to work collaboratively and influence cross-functional teams
Demonstrated ability to drive data literacy and governance cultural change
Hands-on experience with data lifecycle management, particularly data deletion and retention
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, able to bridge technical and non-technical teams.
Desirable
Privacy certifications such as CIPP/E, CIPM, CIPT
Experience with data catalogues, metadata management, and data quality tooling
Experience of relevant technologies including data anonymisation, PETS, artificial intelligence and familiarity with ethical frameworks, data governance and accountability.
