The Regional Standards Manager is responsible for implementing partnership strategies, establishing relationships with standards bodies and stakeholders, overseeing standards initiatives and programs, and leading a team in achieving organizational goals while navigating regional challenges and trends in safety and sustainability.
JOB DESCRIPTION
- Implements and manages partnership strategy that cultivates a pipeline of partners aligned with ULSE's critical focus areas. Develops and executes approach to capitalize on identified opportunities and drives the organization's expansion and influence within the safety standards landscape.
- Establishes and cultivates robust relationships with governmental and non-governmental entities, including national and regional standards bodies, local representatives of regional standards bodies, regulators, code officials, trade industry associates as well as consumer groups and other relevant stakeholder groups.
- Represents ULSE within Mexico and LATAM and region at key meetings, forums, symposia, and conferences. Elevates our standards development work in the region through presentations, articles, panel participation, social media, and other platforms to educate and advance standards initiatives.
- Identifies communications needs and develops relevant content and materials specific to the country/region.
- Researches and maintains understanding of relevant local areas of focus including safety, sustainability, security and health.
- Provides insight to internal stakeholders on regional relationships, standards and regulatory matters and local needs.
- Oversees the execution of standards related programs, and project activities to support the overall global standards strategy in the region.
- Manages and leads team in the fulfillment of their responsibilities and individual career growth. Provides oversight, guidance, coaching and training to junior and seasoned team members. Cultivates collaborative environment to ensure team's success in effective execution of standards activities.
- Maintains continued awareness of industry trends and external context related to the portfolio, offering insights to inform strategic decisions and direction of the standards development function.
- Contributes to department initiatives as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
Professional Competencies
- Demonstrated knowledge of national and international standards development processes. Strong command of regional safety regulations and use of common standards language and terminology.
- Proven leader with experience executing strategy. Able to set strategic direction, interpret, support, and execute organizational strategy while effectively translating objectives into actionable plans and driving successful execution.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high performing teams. Experience setting expectations while establishing and operationalizing clear goals and enforcing accountability for both processes and results.
- Familiarity with World Trade Organization (WTO) - Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) agreement and understanding of other international trade rules.
- Excellent communicator and presenter, skilled in negotiation, influencing diverse stakeholders and navigating cultural differences across regions including the Americans.
- Proven capability in establishing effective relationships with others, including senior leaders and external stakeholders.
- Experience fostering collaboration and partnership with cross functional teams to develop solutions with broad impact.
- Strategic thinker with ability to innovate and adapt in a dynamic industry landscape.
- Experience leading technical committees, steering groups, or similar consensus bodies tasked with defining standards, guidelines, or technical strategies.
Experience and Education Requirements
- Bachelor's degree required. Advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum 9 years of related work experience.
- Experience managing direct reports.
- Fluent (written and spoken) in English. Proficiency (written and spoken) in Spanish.
