At SP Energy Networks, our focus is on harnessing technology and innovation to create the networks of the future. Our team is building a dynamic network to meet the changing demands for electricity and increasingly, renewable electricity – safely, securely, and sustainably in the communities we serve. We know people are central to building a better future, quicker, and we are seeking new talent to join our team in the Merseyside District.

We are looking for an experienced and proactive Project Manager to join our Operations Team in Merseyside. This role will provide essential support to Operational Engineers and Operational Senior Engineers, enabling the efficient delivery of work programmes across our network.

This role is based at our Liverpool City Centre office and reports to the Merseyside Senior Project Engineer.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll help coordinate and deliver a range of operational activities including network outages, generator deployment, contractor and resource management, and procurement activities. You will also lead on the project management of selected capital projects focused on improving network resilience and security. Your role will be key in driving performance, safety, and customer service while ensuring work is delivered on time and to budget.

Responsibilities:

  • Support engineers in the delivery of capital and operational work programmes.

  • Manage and monitor project budgets, procurement, and forecasting to ensure delivery to financial targets.

  • Liaise with contractors, suppliers, and internal teams to ensure effective resource deployment.

  • Track and report on progress, risks, and performance metrics for assigned projects.

  • Provide project management support for Capex projects relating to network resilience, from initiation through to completion.

  • Assist in the preparation and review of project documentation including method statements, risk assessments, and programmes of work.

  • Support continuous improvement and innovation in project delivery and reporting processes.

  • Ensure all project activities comply with relevant health, safety, and environmental standards.

  • Help manage customer communication and stakeholder coordination for project works.

  • Work closely with service providers and operational staff to minimise downtime and optimise efficiency across the network.

What you’ll bring

  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

  • Previous experience in a project management role in a fast paced environment.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a collaborative approach.

  • Ability to work effectively under pressure, solving problems and managing risk proactively.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office

  • Commercial awareness, particularly around contractor management.

  • A strong focus on safety, quality, and performance.

  • Experience working with external contractors, stakeholders, local authorities, or service partners.

  • A proactive mindset and a commitment to continuous improvement.

  • Ideally, experience managing Capex projects or knowledge of resilience-focused investments.

  • Ability to effectively manage various stakeholders with competing priorities.

To be successful in this role you will need to demonstrate as a minimum:

  • Relevant customer service, program delivery or service delivery experience.

  • Experience working as part of a fast paced team, or managing projects teams/resources.

  • Computer literacy

What you need to know about the Belfast Tech Scene

If asked to name the birthplace of the RMS Titanic, you might not say Belfast. Similarly, if asked to name Europe's leading destination for foreign direct investment in new software development, Belfast might not come to mind. Yet, both are true. The city has emerged as a tech powerhouse, recently ranked among the best in the U.K. for tech careers — especially for software developers. It also leads the U.K. with the highest percentage of software development jobs advertised.
