Description
👋🏻 Hello, we're Laka

You might not have heard of us yet - that's OK, you've found us now - come and find out more about our journey...

Founded in 2017, Laka set out to transform insurance by connecting passionate cyclists to form a collective and protect their bikes for when things go wrong - a better model for insurance was born. For once people come first in insurance by fairly sharing the cost amongst each other. We exist to rewrite the rules of insurance so it’s something people stand with, not against.

Our model: Laka makes sure everything runs smoothly for The Collective - from exceptionally fast claims, splitting the cost fairly, guaranteeing a maximum price and all the other heavy lifting of a regulated insurance business. For that service, the collective pays Laka a fee relative to the claims in a month.

Take a closer look at exactly what this means and how it works .

What have we been up to since then...?

In a nutshell, we've been very busy! Here are a few of the massive achievements we've had:

🚀 Grown the team to over 60 Lakanauts, based across the UK, the Netherlands and France , enabling a choice-based, remote-first way of working

🚀 Launched Laka in a total of 5 countries, essentially helping more people in more places!

🚀 Been awarded 'Best Cycle Insurance Provider' (for the past 7 years in a row - go us! 🥳)

🚀 Opened 3 shiny new offices in London, Bristol & Amsterdam to provide spaces for people to collaborate as they like

🚀 We've also achieved a 5* rating on Google Reviews and Glassdoor - go check us out!

Help us continue to change an outdated industry...

We’re growing real fast on our path to make the Laka collective model the industry standard and we’re expanding across segments, products, and territories. We’re looking for innovative, bold and brave minds to help us build the world’s best insurance company.

Product at Laka

As the Product Manager focused on the growth of our Retail business, you'll take ownership of your specific roadmap and backlogs for your product area, working to improve the attractiveness of our products, drive product adoption and retention.

Day-to-day you'll work on our D2C digital insurance experience from discovery to delivery. You'll tightly collaborate with Engineering, Design, Go-to-market and Insurance to focus on what's most important and continuously improve the experience of our riders. With a deep understanding of Laka's ethos, riders, products and brand, your strategies will help make our collective vision a reality through developing products and services that not only are fit-for-purpose, but that surprise and delight (in a positive way!).

What you'll be getting up to:

  • Define and execute the strategy for our riders, clearly shaping our retail product roadmaps.
  • Own the end-to-end product proposition, collaborating with our pricing, insurance product and go-to-market team
  • Drive customer growth initiatives through effective onboarding strategies, proactive upselling and cross-selling, and retention-focused lifecycle management.
  • Continuously build and leverage customer insights in collaboration with the go-to-market teams to ensure products are tailored effectively for each market.
  • Work closely with the Product Lead for Commercial to leverage synergies across both roadmaps for our riders and partners
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to expand our product offerings into new countries, additional insurance categories, and complementary services.
  • Lead collaboration with the Platform team on integrating acquired businesses and managing complexity to ensure seamless transitions.
  • Closely collaborate with Design and Engineering teams to translate customer insights into clearly defined features, managing delivery from concept to launch.
Requirements

You'll be successful here by:

  • Bringing 3-5 years of proven experience in product management, ideally gained within consumer-focused environments.
  • Demonstrating genuine enthusiasm and empathy for cycling (we'll equip you with all the latest cycling industry knowledge).
  • Leading rigorous and structured product discovery and priotisation processes, leveraging both quantitative data and qualitative user insights.
  • Writing clear, precise, and actionable requirements to guide Insurance, Design and Engineering teams effectively.
  • Excelling in cross-functional communication, enabling seamless collaboration and efficient product development processes.
  • Consistently delivering impactful product initiatives that drive measurable business objectives.

And just so you know, Insurance experience isn't required (for most roles). We'll teach you anything you need to know and upskill you if needed. But... before you apply, please make sure that you have permission to work in the UK as we're unable to provide visa sponsorship for any of our current roles.

What you need to know about the Belfast Tech Scene

If asked to name the birthplace of the RMS Titanic, you might not say Belfast. Similarly, if asked to name Europe's leading destination for foreign direct investment in new software development, Belfast might not come to mind. Yet, both are true. The city has emerged as a tech powerhouse, recently ranked among the best in the U.K. for tech careers — especially for software developers. It also leads the U.K. with the highest percentage of software development jobs advertised.
