The Product Security team at Atlassian is committed to ensuring the delivery of secure products. These teams are geographically distributed, with a presence in the USA, Australia, and India. Each team is structured uniformly to provide comprehensive product security services tailored to their respective time zones. These services include security consulting, risk identification, and mitigation consulting for all products within their purview.

Our tasks encompass identifying potential security threats in our products, devising suitable mitigation strategies, and evaluating their effectiveness on a large scale. It is imperative to execute these responsibilities in a scalable manner, allowing us to adapt to the evolving landscape shaped by changes in our business, global dynamics, adversarial strategies, customer requirements, technological advancements, and other factors.
Overview
Do you love application and platform security and uplifting programs and capabilities? Are you excited at the prospect of enabling thousands of Atlassian product and platform developers to improve the security of their applications and infrastructure and ultimately improve the security of millions of users that use Atlassian products? We're looking for a Principal Security Engineer to join our team who thrives on working with development teams to secure their products across the software development lifecycle.
As a Principal Product Security Engineer you will be the Technical SME, promote automation, review platform and service designs and architecture and drive our security teams to equip the engineering partner teams with the latest tools, techniques and methodologies to build secure products by default. You will be responsible for partnering with our security teams and leadership groups across Atlassian's vast footprint to uplift our security programs.
On Your First Day, We'll Expect You To Have

  • 10+ years of experience working in security
  • Demonstrated expertise and experience working in security-focused roles.
  • Significant experience collaborating with engineering teams to conduct security assessments and threat modelling for on-premise as well as SaaS products.
  • Strong expertise in cloud security, with a focus on AWS, GCP, and Azure, coupled with significant experience in container security, particularly in Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Significant expertise in overseeing security design reviews for transitioning services from monolithic to microservices architecture.
  • Experience coding in Java, Javascript, Python, or Go, and at least one scripting language.
  • Experience leading large-scale projects from start to finish and mentoring other security practitioners
  • Adept experience providing SME knowledge and guidance to stakeholders and engineering functions


It's great, but not required if you have:

  • Experience writing software that enables security processes
  • CVE's to your name
  • Contributions to open-source security software
  • Delivered industry presentations
