Role Summary:

Reporting to the MS Hosting Engineering Senior Manager, the MS Cloud Infrastructure Engineer will be responsible for the technical release of new cloud/hosting products and features to Delivery and Operational teams as well as providing technical expertise in the support of both hardware and software solutions as part of the operational escalation matrix. There is also a requirement to provide support to presales on occasion.

Job Scope/Supervision:

The team works closely with our MS Platform Architecture team to receive the design blueprints for new products and transform these in configurations that can then be released into delivery and operational functions. They are also responsible for Infrastructure and Platform support for Private and Public Cloud services.

The team culture and team ethic are very much ‘start-up’, move fast, change what needs changing fast, encourage ideas and use the good ones to move and improve.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Infrastructure Management:

  • Perform upgrades of existing hosting central infrastructure
  • Drive central hosting infrastructure expansions and decommissioning

Hardware Management:

  • Software evaluations and version evaluations for hosting infrastructure components
  • Hardware evaluation, testing and documentation.

Support Management:

  • Analysis of vendor CVEs and providing action plans on current network product set
  • Acting as escalation point for the Operations division
  • Track software bugs, work with vendors on resolution when issues are escalated from operations
  • Support Annual GTT Audits

Platform support for Managed Services

Coach Junior Engineers

Required Experience/Qualifications:

Advanced knowledge of implementation and configuration of at least three of the supporting technologies listed below:

  • Virtualization (KVM)
  • Storage (NetApp, Ceph)
  • Backup (NetBackup, Veeam)
  • Switching (Cisco, Mellanox, Aruba)
  • Automation & Orchestration (CloudStack preferably)
  • x86 server hardware (Dell, HPE)
  • Operating systems (Microsoft Windows, RedHat Linux, Ubuntu)

Desirable Experience/Qualifications:

Demonstrable levels of expertise in any of the following:

  • Public Cloud Providers: AWS, Azure, GCP
  • Private Cloud orchestration solutions (Cloudstack, Kubevirt)
  • Automation of infrastructure deployments and configuration (Ansible, Python, Golang)
