Auckland | Risk Management | Second Line
At Westpac, we’re building a strong, future focused risk culture that supports sustainable performance and smart decision making. We’re looking for an experienced Manager Operational Risk to join our Second Line Risk team and play a key role in strengthening our control environment across the bank.
This is a true Second Line role, where you’ll provide independent oversight, advice and challenge to help embed effective operational risk management across Westpac New Zealand. You’ll work closely with senior stakeholders, influencing how operational risk is identified, assessed and managed within appetite.
Key responsibilities include:
Providing high quality Second Line oversight, monitoring and reporting
Advising and challenging the business on risk maturity and the effective application of the Operational Risk Framework
Supporting uplift of the control environment, including control quality, ownership and end-to-end effectiveness
Building trusted relationships with the business and Senior Risk Business Partners
Helping resolve complex operational risk issues across the bank
Promoting a strong risk culture aligned to the Three Lines of Defence model
Nā tāu rourou | What will you bring?
We’re looking for a practical, confident risk professional who can cut through complexity and influence at pace.
You’ll ideally have:
4+ years’ experience in an operational risk role or closely related business discipline
Strong critical thinking skills and the ability to identify core issues
Proven experience interpreting policy and applying it effectively within the business
The confidence to influence stakeholders and drive compliance with risk frameworks
A good understanding of business processes and control environments
It would be advantageous if you also have:
A degree in Business, Finance, Technology or a related field
Strong Excel skills and confidence working with technology
