YOUR IMPACT

As an Engineering Manager for our Finance Automation platform, you will be a vital leader responsible for the execution, delivery, and professional development of a high-performing full-stack engineering team. You will drive the successful delivery of complex automation features, translating strategic business objectives into clear technical roadmaps and actionable sprints.

This is a people-first leadership role where you will be responsible for hiring, mentoring, coaching, and performance management of your team members. You will foster a healthy, collaborative, and results-oriented team environment, ensuring engineers are engaged, growing, and contributing at their highest potential.

You will partner closely with Product Management, Principal Engineers, and Design to shape requirements, manage scope across product generations, and set realistic, aggressive timelines. Your focus will be on optimizing team processes and removing systemic impediments to ensure predictable, high-quality, and on-time delivery.

  • Team Leadership & Management: Own the career growth, performance reviews, 1:1s, and overall well-being of a team of 6-10 full-stack software engineers. This includes mentoring senior and staff-level engineers.

  • Delivery Excellence: Oversee the full software development lifecycle from strategic planning through deployment, ensuring high-quality, scalable, and reliable features are delivered on schedule for our Finance Automation platform.

  • Process & Execution: Implement and refine effective Agile practices (Scrum/Kanban) to maximize team efficiency, predictability, and velocity. Drive continuous improvement in delivery metrics.

  • Technical & Architectural Governance: Collaborate with Principal Engineers and the Architecture team to ensure the team’s designs and implementations adhere to Redwood’s long-term technical standards, best practices, and non-functional requirements (scalability, security, performance).

  • Recruiting & Organisational Scaling: Partner with recruiting to actively source, interview, and hire top engineering talent, setting a high bar for technical excellence. Contribute to organisational structure and team scaling decisions.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Act as the primary technical point of contact for your team, leading alignment across Product, Design, Customer Success, and other engineering teams to ensure project success.

  • Risk Management: Proactively identify technical, delivery, and personnel risks, developing and executing complex mitigation strategies that protect the roadmap.

You will report directly to the Director of Engineering and contribute to the broader engineering leadership group, helping to evolve our department-wide strategies and culture.

YOUR EXPERIENCE

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, and a demonstrated track record of building and managing successful engineering teams.

Required Experience and Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 8+ years of experience in professional software development, with a strong background in delivering highly scalable SaaS or enterprise applications.

  • 3+ years of experience in a direct people management role (Engineering Manager or higher), including performance management, career development, and leading senior engineers.

  • Proven ability to successfully lead and deliver complex, cross-functional engineering projects with a significant impact on product roadmaps.

  • Deep understanding of modern software architectures (e.g., microservices, event-driven systems) and cloud environments (AWS/Azure/GCP).

  • Expert-level application of Agile methodologies (Scrum/Kanban) and a demonstrated history of driving process improvements that increased team predictability and quality.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex technical and strategic concepts to executive leadership and technical teams.

  • Significant experience with mission-critical systems, such as workload automation, job scheduling, or enterprise resource planning (ERP).

Desirable Technical Familiarity:

  • Experience managing teams that work with the Redwood tech stack: Java (11/17+), ReactJS, TypeScript, Docker, and Kubernetes.

  • Strong familiarity with data modelling and database technologies (SQL/NoSQL).

  • Experience integrating DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines into team workflows.

Successful candidates will also be expected to have:

  • A servant-leader approach with a deep commitment to mentoring and growing engineering talent at all levels.

  • High emotional intelligence and a proven ability to manage complex team dynamics and foster a diverse, inclusive, and high-trust environment.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a data-driven approach to resource planning, technical trade-offs, and risk assessment.

  • The ability to balance long-term architectural strategy with near-term business delivery needs.

If you like growth and working with happy, enthusiastic over-achievers, you'll enjoy your career with us!

What you need to know about the Belfast Tech Scene

If asked to name the birthplace of the RMS Titanic, you might not say Belfast. Similarly, if asked to name Europe's leading destination for foreign direct investment in new software development, Belfast might not come to mind. Yet, both are true. The city has emerged as a tech powerhouse, recently ranked among the best in the U.K. for tech careers — especially for software developers. It also leads the U.K. with the highest percentage of software development jobs advertised.
