Management Accountant

About the Role

We’re looking for a proactive and detail-focused Management Accountant to join our growing Finance team. Working alongside our Financial Controller and Assistant Accountant, you’ll take a leading role in preparing accurate financial statements, managing reporting deadlines, and maintaining clear records to support the financial health of the business.

This is a varied and hands-on role, covering everything from monthly management accounts and VAT returns to cash flow forecasting, payroll support, and helping respond to audit queries. You'll also work across systems like Xero and Pleo, providing guidance to the wider team and helping make finance easier to understand across the business.

How you will help

  • Prepare monthly consolidated management accounts for review
  • Assist in monthly departmental reporting and management information
  • Monitor bank balances and help deliver accurate monthly cash flow forecasts
  • Maintain day-to-day bookkeeping in Xero
  • Liaise with the wider team to ensure all data is correctly accounted for and reconciled
  • Oversee the purchase order system alongside the Assistant Accountant
  • Liaise with teams to ensure timely sales invoicing and oversee debtor collection
  • Review and administer company expenses via Pleo
  • Assist with payroll preparation
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly VAT returns
  • Review bank reconciliations and set up payments
  • Collate data for R&D tax returns
  • Respond to finance queries across the organisation
  • Support audit processes
  • Provide cover for the Assistant Accountant when required

To Hit the Ground Running, You’ll Need:


Essential

  • Experience producing monthly management accounts to strict deadlines
  • Ideally 2+ years in a similar finance role
  • ACCA qualified or part-qualified
  • Confident using Xero and Microsoft Excel (intermediate level)
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with colleagues across different teams
  • A hands-on, flexible, and enthusiastic approach to solving problems and improving processes


Desirable (but not essential):

  • Experience working in a growing SME environment
  • Familiarity with expense platforms such as Pleo

Working Hours:
We consider full-time to be 37.5 hours per week between 7am and 7pm Monday to Friday but this could also be a part-time role if it works best for you.

We'd like some of your working hours to be coordinated with other team members and stakeholders to ensure we're being efficient and communicating effectively,

Location: We have an office based in Cardiff and would expect you in the office on average 2 times per week to engage with the various stakeholders

Salary: We’re budgeting between £30,000 and
£35,000 per year for a full-time person in this role, with the offered salary being based on previous experience. If the role is part-time, the salary will be adjusted accordingly based on the agreed hours.
