What you’ll do

Our bank is shaping the future of financial services. We’re looking for a Legal Counsel with experience of Point of Sale (POS) lending and embedded finance, ideally in an in-house role within a fast-paced environment, customer-focused environment. Partnering with stakeholders across NatWest Boxed and Legal, Governance & Regulatory Affairs (LG&RA), we’ll look to you to provide timely, clear and commercially grounded legal advice that enables the business to move at pace. You’ll work closely with the Boxed team and spend part of your time co‑located with them in the London Bishopsgate office.

You’ll focus on:

  • Delivering strategic legal advice that is commercial, clear and easy for non-lawyers to understand, and shared at pace in line with business priorities
  • Working autonomously and taking ownership of BAU legal decisions within the established legal governance framework
  • Collaborating closely with commercial and partnership teams within NatWest Boxed, as well as product and legal teams in LG&RA, to build strong relationships and support proposition delivery
  • Managing legal spend through cost management tools and embedding a disciplined approach to cost control
  • Sharing knowledge across the LG&RA team and working closely with other legal colleagues
  • Embedding legal advice with appropriate risk considerations and supporting all aspects of proposition development and the NatWest Boxed operating model
The skills you'll need

To be successful in this role, you’ll bring strong embedded finance and POS lending experience, along with a background in building or working within a business like NatWest Boxed. You’ll have confident drafting and negotiations skills, and you’ll collaborate seamlessly with a wide range of stakeholders. Staying current and proactively sharing insights on relevant legal, regulatory and market developments are important aspects of this job, as well.

As our Legal Counsel, you’ll exercise the confidence, autonomy and accountability to make sound legal decisions without leaning on external assurance for BAU matters. We’ll expect you to understand, interpret and translate business needs into clear legal direction, all while moving at pace and supporting ambitious proposition delivery.

You’ll also need:

  • Experience working with leading law firms and other professional advisers and consultants
  • Knowledge of general banking law and practice, with a grounded understanding of the financial services industry
  • A customer‑back mindset and genuine curiosity about how propositions deliver value
  • Excellent communication skills that help you build strong relationships across teams
  • An appetite to leverage AI and technology to improve the way we work
  • A delivery focused, self-starting approach with a commitment to continuous learning and development
