Airbus Belfast is pleased to announce a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Lean Engineer to join our team. At the heart of our operations is the Airbus Operating System (AOS), a standardized framework built on lean principles designed to continuously enhance business performance. By providing a unified way of working across multi-functional teams at all levels, AOS empowers our organization to achieve its primary driver: the relentless improvement of our operational excellence.
This role is fundamental in securing the strategic alignment between high-level organizational objectives and the daily activities of our teams. We believe that the path to success lies in leading our workforce toward common goals, fostering increased autonomy, and supporting professional growth. As a Senior Lean Engineer, you will act as a catalyst for this transformation, ensuring that every level of the organization is synchronized and performing at its peak potential.
The successful candidate will contribute directly to the definition and deployment of AOS standards, providing expert guidance to site management and functional teams. We are seeking an individual with deep knowledge of lean principles and proven shop-floor experience in manufacturing. In this position, you will address systemic operational challenges by implementing piloted, standardized, and sustainable solutions, reinforcing the robust performance culture that defines Airbus.

HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE TO THE TEAM:

  •  Develop and coach senior management (production and support functions) and local AOS teams

  • Support AOS digitalisation solution development

  • Facilitate, co-lead and support kaizen events in a trainer mode.

  • Facilitate, co-lead and support training development and training delivery

  • Lead assessments of industrial maturity establishing recommendations based on performance improvement priorities

  • Advise on performance improvement opportunities and governance management, supporting governance / steering

  • Ensure Knowledge transfer to local AOS teams

ABOUT YOU:

  • Ability and experience to train managers, technicians and operators 
  • Deep knowledge and experience of lean manufacturing and lean management / problem solving
  • Good knowledge and experience in industrial engineering, quality tools, problem solving, logistics engineering and process optimisation (APICS basic level, Six Sigma Black Belt, Kepner Tregoe or equivalent are desirable) 
  • Experience in leading lean manufacturing workshops such as kaizen, VSM, SMED, 5S, Hoshin Kanri
  • Experience in operations management within a best-in-class lean environment 
  • Coaching skills and experience with communication competences 
  • Aeronautical manufacturing basics 
  • Capability to design strategies for change management, coaching, mentoring and training 
  • Degree level qualification preferred
