JOB TITLE: Lead Specialist, Design & Records

THE JOB
We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically skilled Telecommunications Design Technician to support the design, documentation, and maintenance of our fibre infrastructure. The successful candidate will be responsible for producing new telecommunications designs that extend existing networks, updating and maintaining splicing records, and utilizing GIS tools to ensure accuracy and consistency of network data.
WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING?
- Develop and produce detailed designs for new telecommunications network extensions based on existing infrastructure.
- Interpret construction standards, design guidelines, and network architecture to ensure compliant and cost-effective solutions.
- Prepare design packages, including network layouts, schematics, and documentation for field and construction teams.
- Create, update, and maintain splicing records for both new and existing network builds.
- Ensure splicing documentation accurately reflects as-built conditions and design intent.
- Coordinate with engineering, construction, and field teams t reconcile discrepancies between design and field data.
- Work closely with splicing team on the ground for any changes made in the field.
- Propose new cable upgrades or overlays and input into outage requirements with Fibrus NOC team.
- Utilize ESRI ArcGIS Pro and related GIS applications to design, analyse, and update telecommunications network data.
- Maintain accurate spatial records of network assets within GIS databases.
- Produce maps, visualizations, and data reports to support engineering and operations.
WHAT WILL YOU BRING?
The ideal person will come from a telecoms background coupled with extensive planning and splicing experience.
- Proficiency in ESRI ArcGIS Pro and familiarity with other ESRI GIS tools.
- Understanding of FME (feature manipulation engines) and automated outputs from GIS mapping
- Understanding of telecommunications network design principles.
- Experience interpreting and producing splicing records and network schematics.
- Knowledge of OTDR and ILM testing criteria and experience conducting these tests.
- Strong knowledge of Optical Distribution Frames (ODF) and internal cabinet layouts
- Understanding light loss impact to fibreoptic networks
- Strong understanding of internal Splice Closure configuration and limitations of dual-split network architecture
- Understanding of fibreoptic cable configurations and specifications of each cable
- Knowledge of network construction standards and wayleave processes is an asset.
- Strong attention to detail and data accuracy.
- Excellent communication and documentation abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Collaborative team player who can also work independently.
