  • Hybrid working: we spend 2 days together a week, with this role based in our Manchester Spinningfields office.

As a Lead Platform Engineer, you’ll shape the backbone of our engineering ecosystem—designing and evolving the platforms that power our products at scale. You’ll lead technical strategy, champion best practices, and enable teams to deliver faster, safer, and smarter. This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll influence architecture, mentor engineers, and drive innovation in cloud infrastructure, automation, and developer experience.

You’ll guide the evolution of our database products, ensuring secure, performant, and developer-friendly data services, while leading the team through design, delivery, and operational excellence.

Our Technology

Our platform underpins critically important services, designed for security, scalability, and developer efficiency. We leverage AWS, container orchestration (ECS), and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CDK) to deliver resilient, automated environments. Observability is powered by DataDog, and we’re embracing AI-driven tooling (GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT) to accelerate delivery and improve quality. You’ll help us evolve this ecosystem to support rapid growth and innovation.

How you'll spend your day:
  • Lead & Inspire: Set technical direction, mentor engineers, and foster a culture of excellence.
  • Data Excellence: Champion best practices in database design, enable self-serve tools for developers, and drive smart, scalable data decisions across the Group.
  • Design & Deliver: Architect and implement scalable, secure platform solutions that empower product teams.
  • Innovate & Improve: Drive continuous improvement in automation, observability, and developer experience.
  • Collaborate & Influence: Partner with Product, Security, and Engineering leaders to align platform strategy with business goals.
What value you'll bring to the role:
  • Proven experience leading platform or infrastructure engineering teams in a cloud-native environment, with specific experience in data engineering.
  • Deep expertise in AWS, infrastructure-as-code (Terraform/CDK), and container orchestration.
  • Strong understanding of database technologies (MongoDB, relational DBs) and data modelling.
  • Passion for automation, observability, and improving developer experience.
  • Comfortable leveraging AI tools to accelerate delivery and improve quality.
  • Excellent communicator who can influence technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Our interview process:
  • A call with one of our Talent Acquisition Team
  • An interview consisting of Technical Questions, a System Design Task, and Behavioural Questions focused on leadership and working with others.
What rewards are on offer:
  • Up to 30 holidays + bank holidays
  • Pension up to 6% employer contribution
  • Bonus scheme
  • Enhanced shared parental leave - 6 months paid for both parents
  • Digital Doctor on demand
  • Work from anywhere scheme – 2 weeks per year
  • Financial coaching
  • Mental health platform access

What you need to know about the Belfast Tech Scene

If asked to name the birthplace of the RMS Titanic, you might not say Belfast. Similarly, if asked to name Europe's leading destination for foreign direct investment in new software development, Belfast might not come to mind. Yet, both are true. The city has emerged as a tech powerhouse, recently ranked among the best in the U.K. for tech careers — especially for software developers. It also leads the U.K. with the highest percentage of software development jobs advertised.
