As a Lead Full Stack Engineer, you will design and build the exception management, workflow orchestration, and governance platform that keeps case resolution running smoothly across Citi's enterprise systems. You will architect scalable microservices and intuitive user interfaces, and translate complex business requirements into secure, high-performing software. This role combines hands-on engineering with technical leadership, giving you ownership over how exceptions, approvals, and entitlements are managed at enterprise scale.

Responsibilities
  • Architect and build scalable microservices and REST APIs in Java and Spring Boot that power enterprise-wide exception and case management.
  • Design exception and case management workflows, covering intake, validation, case creation, allocation, and resolution tracking.
  • Develop workflow orchestration using tools such as Camunda or Flowable to enable dynamic routing, task assignment, escalations, and SLA management.
  • Build configurable maker-checker approval frameworks that enforce multi-level approvals, segregation of duties, and delegation policies.
  • Implement entitlement and governance controls, including role- and attribute-based access, fine-grained UI permissions, and full audit trails.
  • Design event-driven integrations with Kafka to support asynchronous processing, real-time notifications, and ServiceNow connectivity.
  • Build high-volume React and TypeScript interfaces, including dashboards and task inboxes, that give users clear visibility into their work.

Required Qualifications & Skills
  • 6+ years of experience in applications development, and managing complex technical projects within financial services or a similarly regulated industry.
  • Hands-on proficiency in Java and Spring Boot, with a track record of architecting secure, scalable microservices, REST APIs and shared platform services consumed across multiple enterprise applications.
  • Experience with workflow orchestration engines such as Camunda, Flowable, or other BPMN-based tools, including dynamic routing, task assignment, escalations and SLA management.
  • Experience designing maker-checker approval frameworks, segregation of duties, entitlement models such as RBAC or ABAC, and audit trail capabilities.
  • Event-Driven Architecture: Strong Kafka experience for asynchronous processing, event-based workflows, notifications and ServiceNow integration.
  • Proficiency in React and TypeScript for building complex, high-volume enterprise user interfaces.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Platform Architecture & Scalability: Proven ability to design secure, resilient, high-performance shared services consumed by multiple enterprise applications.

Beneficial Skills & Qualifications
  • Master's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.

What you need to know about the Belfast Tech Scene

If asked to name the birthplace of the RMS Titanic, you might not say Belfast. Similarly, if asked to name Europe's leading destination for foreign direct investment in new software development, Belfast might not come to mind. Yet, both are true. The city has emerged as a tech powerhouse, recently ranked among the best in the U.K. for tech careers — especially for software developers. It also leads the U.K. with the highest percentage of software development jobs advertised.
