Westpac New Zealand is seeking a Lead Engineer to join the FinCrime Tech Squad within the Fraud and FinCrime service group. As 2IC to the Service Owner, you’ll lead Platform and Systems Engineering workstreams, set engineering standards, and co‑create the technical strategy for how we design, build, and operate solutions for AML/CTF, Sanctions, and related FinCrime capabilities. You combine deep technical expertise (e.g., Control‑M, scripting, CI/CD, containerisation) with pragmatic leadership to deliver safe and timely outcomes for our stakeholders.
Ko tō mahi | What you’ll do
Serves as technical counterpart and 2IC to the Service Owner, stepping in for prioritisation, delivery decisions, and risk/incident leadership when required.
Take responsibility for supporting the NetReveal application and all related initiatives in the pipeline.
Provide technical leadership to engineers during deployments of release packages, disaster recoveries and updates while ensuring technology upgrades are carried out within best practice guidelines.
Show passion for ensuring good code quality and configuration consistency.
Serve as a trusted technical partner to FinCrime Operations, Policy & Advisory, Risk, and Analytics; facilitate design trade‑offs and sequencing decisions.
Contribute to establishing and maintaining monitoring, alerting, and observability aligned to Westpac practices (dashboards, actionable alerts, run-time SLOs).
Lead the design and operation of Control‑M scheduling, batch orchestration, calendars, dependencies, and failure/retry strategies; champion automation.
Nā tāu rourou | What will you bring?
At least 5 years’ experience in financial services, with a background in delivery projects.
Experience with Kubernetes or similar containerisation technologies.
Proven ability to lead technical teams and act as a key influencer.
Deep understanding of AML processes and general knowledge of rules and detection checks in the FinCrime space.
Experience supporting applications such as NetReveal or similar FinCrime applications.
Strong commitment to code quality, configuration consistency and compliance.
Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
Agile mindset and ability to work collaboratively.
Desirable skills:
Batch scheduling/orchestration: Strong hands‑on expertise with Control‑M (designing schedules, calendars, dependencies, error handling, notifications).
Scripting & automation: Proficiency in Python, Bash, and PowerShell (or equivalent) for tooling, integration, and operational automation.
Containers & runtime: Kubernetes fundamentals (workloads, services, ingress, Helm), resiliency patterns, and troubleshooting in product.
