This is not a team leading position. We are looking for an experienced DBA who is leading in their technical abilities.
Duties & Responsibilities
We like to work in small, focused groups so you're always learning from people around you, and feel a part of the success of each project you are involved with. You will be working in a growing and experienced team consisting of DBAs, DevOps engineers, software engineers, architects and other SMEs, in addition to agile delivery and project managers. This is an ideal career opportunity for someone who enjoys working within a collaborative, autonomous environment, whilst applying their wealth of experience
- Responsible for the reliability and performance aspects of multiple AWS Production and Non-Production databases (Oracle/PostgreSQL/Redshift) supporting critical applications
- Work on observability of relevant database metrics aligned to service SLAs
- Provide database expertise to engineering teams (database migrations, queries and performance optimisations).
- Securing databases platforms and individual databases based on requirements and implementation
- Automation of database platform and help engineering focus on delivering working application services
- Identify parts of the data platforms that do not scale, provide immediate resolutions and drives long term resolution of these incidents
- Proactively work on the efficiency and capacity planning to set clear requirements and reduce the system resources usage to make cheaper to run
- Drive root cause analysis of incidents and draw on the experience of other members of the team to determine how to better respond to or avoid incidents in future
Core Competencies
The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree or greater in Computer Science or a related field. An equivalent of at least 5 years of working experience as Senior DBA in on prem/AWS.
You will have demonstrated the following competencies to the proficiency level appropriate to the seniority of the role:
- Expert in managing multi-terabyte Redshift, PostgreSQL & Oracle on prem/RDS databases.
- Proficient knowledge of SQL, bash scripting and Python
- Designing and implementing High Availability and Disaster Recovery
- Maintaining, configuring automated alerting, and monitoring the database platforms
- Performance tuning, indexing, partitioning.
- Employ the best practices for change and release management by ensuring only rock-solid code goes to the production
- Good to have DevOps tools working knowledge like Git, Terraform, Ansible etc.
- BAU production support - Advanced Diagnostics and trouble shooting skills with an outcome of finding root cause and prompt fix for high priority incidents
