You will be responsible for the architectural decisions, system setup, code quality, end-to-end execution, and leading a team of backend developers and AI specialists to build a robust, scalable retail platform from the ground up.
💸 Salary: Gross (B2B) 5000€ ~ 6000€ / month.

Job description
We are seeking an exceptional Lead Backend Developer to architect and lead the development of the retail ecosystem backend. This role begins as a 4-month contract to build the foundational microservices and has a strong potential to become a full-time leadership position. You will be the ultimate owner of the backend platform, responsible for all technical decisions, infrastructure setup on AWS, database design, and leading a team of backend developers and AI specialists. Your expertise will be critical in building a system that can handle millions of daily transactions for a massive user base, serving as the economic backbone for small retailers across Latin America.
Your Responsibilities
- Technical Leadership & Architecture: Define and maintain the overall backend architecture, ensuring it aligns with the principles of Domain-Driven Design and scalability.
- AWS Infrastructure Setup: Lead the setup and management of the AWS environment using Infrastructure as Code (AWS CDK), including Amazon EKS with Fargate, RDS for PostgreSQL, S3, Cognito, and the CI/CD pipeline.
- Hands-On Development: Be an active, hands-on contributor, writing clean, high-quality code for the most critical parts of the system using Java and Spring Boot.
- Team Management: Lead a team of other mid/senior backend developers, conduct code reviews, and ensure adherence to best practices.
- Database Design & Management: Define the design of the PostgreSQL database schema and implement data migration strategies.
- API Governance: Establish and enforce a consistent API strategy, including the URI Path Versioning and documentation standards, across all backend services to ensure a stable and predictable platform for all client applications.
- Security Ownership: Act as the primary owner for the security of the backend platform, implementing best practices for data protection (in-transit and at-rest), secret management (AWS Secrets Manager), and network security within the VPC.
- System Observability: Implement and manage a robust monitoring and alerting strategy using Amazon CloudWatch and AWS X-Ray.
- Collaboration: Act as the primary technical liaison for the backend, working closely with the Product Manager and mobile team to deliver integrated solutions.
Preferred experience
- 8+ years of backend development experience, with a heavy focus on Java and the Spring ecosystem (Spring Boot, Spring Data, Spring Security).
- Proven experience designing, building, and deploying complex microservices architectures.
- Domain-Driven Design (DDD): Demonstrable experience applying DDD principles to break down complex business problems into well-defined, decoupled microservices.
- Deep, hands-on experience with AWS services: EKS, Fargate, RDS, S3, API Gateway, SQS/SNS, and Cognito.
- Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code (AWS CDK).
- Third-Party API Integration: Experience integrating with external APIs is required. Specific experience with the WhatsApp Business API is a strong plus.
- Experience leading a small team of developers, including conducting code reviews and providing guidelines.
- Profound in database design, performance tuning (PostgreSQL), and caching strategies (Redis).
- Communication: Effective communication skills with team members and stakeholders, showcasing your work confidently.
- Languages: Fluent in English to seamlessly integrate with our international team and clientele. Since the product is focused on the Latin American market, being Spanish-speaking is a significant advantage.
