ROLE TITLE: Junior Data Analyst

REPORTING LINE: The Junior Data Analyst will report directly to the Off-vessel and Enabling technology lead.

LOCATION/BASE: You will be working at our location in the Titanic Quarter: Unit 1 Oakbank, Channel Park, Queens Road, Belfast BT3 9DT.

DEPARTMENTAL OVERVIEW:

The product team sits within the Artemis eVessels department and is responsible for the delivery of current vessel designs and the definition of new products. The data analytics branch is responsible for the capture, processing, storage and analysis of all operational vessel data to deliver insights on performance to various internal and external stakeholders. It also informs the next vessel design iteration, provide support for vessel warranty services and investigate new technologies to deliver more connected vessels.  

SUMMARY OF THE ROLE:

This is a full-time, permanent role operating in the data analytics branch of the Product team. The Junior Data Analyst will be responsible for the delivery of historical and live vessel data insights, ensuring that data availability and quality is kept at the highest standard.


The successful candidate will apply data analysis methods to develop predictive maintenance capabilities, including the investigation of failure modes and the correlation  of vessel data with external factors such as weather and statistical route analysis.


The Junior data analyst will also contribute to the delivery of Artemis’ vessel data strategy and ensure that adequate data processing is performed and disseminated to the various stakeholders. This is an opportunity to familiarise with current data processing method and drive the delivery of advanced insights on a complex vessel system in a fast-paced environment.

 

THE ROLE DESCRIPTION:

The role will be involved in the full data processing pipeline from the ingestion of vessel logs and telemetry data points to the dissemination of dashboards and reports. The junior data analyst will query relevant data and apply different analysis methods to answer specific questions, documenting the method and findings so learnings can be captured and built upon. This will help steer the design of new products and contribute to the deployment of automated processing in the cloud and on the edge.


This role requires a good understanding of data sources and sufficient proficiency with the Python programming language  to handle various levels of data quality while maintaining a quick turnaround time. A self-starter mentality and analytical thinking will be essential for providing new perspectives on the data and answering exploratory questions.


The role requires a strong commitment to method and rigorous processing to foster the accuracy and demonstrability of the findings.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES / ACCOUNTABILITIES: 

  • Coordinate and collaborate with ATL technical partners, to deliver groundbreaking zero carbon maritime solutions.
  • Handle data queries from the different stakeholders, keeping track of priorities to manage workload.
  • Gather all the necessary data to provide a complete answer, flagging inconsistencies and gaps where more data needs to be captured.
  • Directly exchange with data requestors to help refine the queries and perform follow-up analysis.
  • Deliver insights with the highest standard of presentation and ease of understanding.
  • Ensure that data quality is maintained and help with day-to-day database management and migration.
  • Directly support the wider Data team in developing and improving vessel data acquisition and analysis pipelines, implementing software engineering best practice in line with ATL’s data strategy
  • Maintain a high level of documentation and methodology to build on previous queries.
  • Attend team and 1-1 meetings and fulfil reporting requirements as required by Artemis Technologies.
  • Ensure compliance with Artemis Technologies Policies and procedures as outlined in the Company Handbook.
  • Build good working relationships across Artemis Technologies.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

Education/Qualifications and Experience Required:

Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science or a related discipline, with practical software development experience gained through professional work, internships or substantial personal/academic projects


Key Skills Required:

  • Technical skills:
    • Strong analytical capability with an ability to interpret and structure data effectively.
    • Experience in software development or scripting (Python preferred); ability to build functional tools, scripts and visualisations.
    • Proficiency in data handling and visualisation tools.
    • Experience working with APIs and cloud-hosted data .
    • Experience with timeseries databases and document-oriented databases.
    • Visual studio and version control (Git).
    • Experience with Grafana or similar tool.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.

Useful but not essential:

  • Understanding of marine industry and vessel data.
  • Statistical tools .
  • Understanding of machine learning models.
  • Experience working with large or unstructured datasets.

  • Communication skills:
    • Comfortable engaging non-technical stakeholders across commercial, finance and technical functions, and producing polished graphics and briefing materials for external audiences.
    • Good technical communication skills
    • Ability to convey complex information in simple presentations
    • Commitment to documentation and reporting
    • Excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Organising skills:
    • Ability to manage your own time and collaborate on project planning.
