Join our IT Team as an IT Developer. This role can be performed remotely with the requirement to travel to our Dumfries office.

As a Java Developer, you will bring your experience in Java development to contribute to software solutions. This role involves working on various projects and collaborating with cross-functional teams to support business goals. You'll be involved in the development and maintenance of applications related to our warehouse distribution system and other Customer Facing products. Strong communication skills are important, as you will work closely with both technical and business stakeholders. You'll be customer-focused and help drive development to meet business needs. This small, but highly collaborative, team is based in Dumfries. However we are open to on-site, hybrid or remote applicants.

Java Development

  • Develop and maintain Java applications as part of the team.
  • Write clean and efficient code.
  • Follow established practices in code quality, testing, and documentation.
  • Participate in code reviews and collaborate with team members.
  • Assist in troubleshooting, debugging, and resolving software defects.

Architecture & Design

  • Contribute to the design of software solutions in collaboration with architects and senior developers.
  • Adhere to architectural guidelines and best practices.
  • Support the architecture and design efforts within the team.
  • Project Participation
  • Participate in development projects from start to finish as a team member.
  • Contribute to planning and estimation activities.
  • Help ensure that project timelines are met.

  • Learn from more experienced team members and share your knowledge with others.
  • Engage in continuous learning and self-improvement.

Collaboration

  • Work closely with Business Analysts, managers, QA engineers, and other stakeholders as part of the team.
  • Participate in agile development processes, including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders.

Continuous Improvement

  • Stay informed about industry trends and technologies.
  • Contribute to improving development processes and practices.
  • Assist in identifying and implementing performance improvements.

About you:

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 2-4 years of experience in Java development.
  • Experience working in development teams.
  • Oracle Certified Associate - Java Programmer or similar certification preferred.

Technical Skills

  • Core Java: Solid experience with Java and familiarity with related frameworks (Spring, Hibernate, etc.).
  • Web Technologies: Some experience with RESTful web services, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Databases: Working knowledge of SQL and basic experience with JDBC.
  • Familiarity with Integrated Development Environments such as IntelliJ IDEA, Eclipse, or NetBeans is beneficial. Basic knowledge of Git for source code management and exposure to CI/CD tools like Jenkins or GitLab CI is helpful.
  • Operating Systems: Basic familiarity with Linux and Bash scripting.
  • Web Technologies: Basic experience in creating and consuming RESTful APIs, with some understanding of SOAP protocols and WSDL. Familiarity with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for front-end integration.

Soft Skills

  • Good problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Basic organizational skills and ability to contribute to project management tasks.
