What you'll do
SPARC is our internal consulting team, offering training, guidance, and expertise to application teams in their adoption of public cloud solutions. We help ensure that they follow best practices and deliver secure, cost-effective applications. With our cloud-based transformation well underway, engineers across the bank are using modern engineering practices to explore the full potential of the cloud.
As an Infrastructure Engineer, within our SPARC team, you’ll support the teams with managing the creation and maintenance of technologies required to meet the needs of our customers, strategic targets and architecture outcomes, along with developing solutions using modern engineering practices and tools.
We’ll look to you to collaborate with Product Owners and Application teams to develop roadmaps to manage the lifecycle of products. Supporting the engineering of products to respond to customer feedback, new feature requests, resolve production issues and most importantly help customers consume our products.
Additionally, you’ll:
- Take a lead role within a team to coach, mentor and train teams to design and engineer intuitive, self-service infrastructure products and solutions
- Develop documentation to support your work, aligning to our architectural principals and guiding best practice
- Identify, document and solve common issues seen across teams, through regular interactions
- Contribute to the delivery of infrastructure as code solutions and build an awareness of design thinking tools and techniques with users to drive improvements
- Help teams in their adoption of operational support processes for product related issues
- Experiment with new technologies and test ideas to generate innovative solutions for our customers and make sure that solutions have security considered from the outset
- Develop technical skills through continuous learning and development, embedding these through training others
The skills you'll need
To thrive in this role, you’ll have experience in software development, with an understanding of the software development lifecycle. You’ll also have experience in utilising modern infrastructure as code via tooling. In addition, you’ll bring a broad set of skill, a passion for learning, sharing and an unwavering customer focus. We’ll also expect you to bring a good understanding of Agile working practices and toolsets such as JIRA with the ability to create the vision for the release train, feature team, platform and domain.
Furthermore, you’ll need:
- Experience of the development of CI/CD pipelines using Terraform
- Experience with software testing practices and tools, as well as proficiency in observability techniques, with the ability to leverage data, insights, and user feedback to continuously improve solutions
- Demonstratable public cloud vendor knowledge covering at least one of GCP, AWS and Azure, with relevant certifications or experience
- Strong collaborative communication skills for articulating technical concepts clearly to stakeholders, adapting to different audiences both verbally and written
- Experience of architecture and consultancy, as well as contributing to roadmaps and strategies
- Knowledge across the Infrastructure stack including server operating systems, virtualisation, databases, middleware and networking
- Experience in taking a leading role in guiding others to solve problems, and identify solutions through mentoring, and teaching
