Team/Role Overview

The HR Policy Lead role is responsible for supporting the Governance efforts of HR Policy documents across the UK, Europe and MEA Cluster. The role is also responsible to ensure Policy harmonisation for UK, Europe and MEA Cluster in adherence to Citi’s Global HR Policy governance requirements, with a particular focus on UK and Sub Saharan & North Africa. The role is responsible for ensuring consistency in the development of HR Policy and practices, to the extent possible, that are in line with Citi’s HR Policy objectives. The role requires a comprehensive understanding of employment laws and their impact on Policy and has knowledge of how multiple areas within the HR function interact, to achieve the objectives of the cluster HR Policy function and overall Global HR Policy objectives.  This role will report to the UK, Europe and MEA Cluster HR Policy Manager (C14, SVP).

What you’ll do

  • Develop and implement employment Policies and practices that are legally and practically sound and in line with Citi’s HR Policy governance requirements.
  • Work with the Regulatory Management and Legal teams to analyse regulatory or legal updates, identify needed policy changes, and manage the update, implementation, and education of those changes. Conduct regular review of country employee handbooks to make updates in line with Regulatory Management requirements and Global initiatives.
  • Regularly reviewing and updating existing HR Policy and other HR documents, keeping abreast of new emerging policy trends and identifies opportunities for policy harmonization and standardization. 
  • Create communications and facilitate training on new or required revisions to existing HR Policies relevant to the HR community and other key stakeholders, as required.
  • Drive Policy Governance efforts across UK, Europe and MEA Cluster by leading coordination with key stakeholders in the design, development, implementation and approval of HR policies (including employee handbooks), across UK, Europe and MEA Cluster in a consistent manner.
  • Facilitates annual reviews of Citi For You and HR Help Centre to ensure all posted HR Policies, standards, and procedures for the UK, Europe and MEA Cluster are current.
  • Maintains an inventory of HR Policy documents across the UK, Europe and MEA Cluster, including the use of relevant Policy document templates.
  • Ensures any Policy implementation risk & issues are escalated appropriately, any local exceptions are appropriately documented and that any required approvals are obtained prior to implementation or revisions.
  • Partners with the key stakeholders of UK, Europe and MEA Cluster to support consistent application of HR policies and identification of unique country level requirements.
  • Engages with partners in the assessment, development, and implementation of self-service content in Citi For You / HR Help Centre platforms.
  • Coordinates with HR and Legal resources to manage HR Policy dispensations, waivers/exceptions.
  • Assesses Policy breaches, pertaining to workplace conduct issues or Policies owned by HR Policy team, and assigns severity level in disciplinary cases, takes part in discussions on the local cases in UK and Sub Saharan & North Africa.
  • Keeps the HR Policies Database updated following regulatory changes in the UK and Sub Saharan & North Africa countries.
  • Supports CHRO and Labour Relations in drafting internal Policies, procedures, guidelines and other HR policy documents in UK and Sub Saharan & North Africa.
  • Takes part in consultations and negotiations with trade unions and other employee representatives, if related to local Policies.
  • Recognized as a subject matter expert and known internally as a reliable, knowledgeable resource.
  • All other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to work well in a dynamic, fast paced and an ever-changing environment, and across multiple time zones.
  • relevant experience in Human Resources, preferably Employee Relations, Control & Compliance, or Employment legal with an emphasis on policy work.
  • Knowledge of employment policies, practices and employment law and regulations.
  • Experience in drafting material for a broad audience, including policy writing, regular communications, training material, and formal documents.
  • Prior experience working across multi-jurisdictions preferred.
  • Fluent in English (writing and speaking).
  • Strong Proficiency in Microsoft Office - Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams, Outlook.
  • Bachelors/University degree or equivalent experience
