Your Future Team

Are you someone who enjoys bringing people together, solving problems and helping good ideas become reality?

Join our two year Graduate Programme and begin your career with our Project Management team. You’ll work alongside experienced project professionals supporting complex engineering and infrastructure projects within our Defence business.

Our Project Managers bring together people, information and technical expertise to help projects move successfully from initial requirements through planning and delivery to handover and close out. They help teams remain focused on what needs to be delivered, when it needs to happen and how risks or issues will be managed.

You’ll gain practical experience across the project lifecycle while developing your understanding of project planning, governance, risk, change, cost, quality and stakeholder management. You’ll be supported as you build your confidence, develop your project management skills and learn how multidisciplinary teams deliver complex projects.

Job Description

Your Responsibilities

From day one, you’ll contribute to live projects and help teams coordinate the people, activities and information required for successful delivery.

You’ll work under the guidance of experienced Project Managers, gradually taking on greater responsibility as your knowledge, skills and confidence develop. Assystem’s Project Management terms of responsibility describe the graduate’s primary role as learning from experienced colleagues, understanding cross-functional requirements and contributing to project delivery.

Your main responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the development and maintenance of project plans, schedules, actions and delivery milestones.
  • Helping define and track project scope, requirements and agreed deliverables.
  • Coordinating information and activities across engineering, commercial, project controls and other multidisciplinary teams.
  • Supporting the identification and management of project risks, issues, assumptions and dependencies.
  • Assisting with project governance, change control, meetings and decision making processes.
  • Preparing clear project reports, meeting packs, presentations and progress updates.
  • Building effective relationships with clients, stakeholders, suppliers and delivery partners.
  • Supporting project handover, close-out, lessons learned and continuous improvement activities.

  • Have recently completed, or expect to complete, a degree in Project Management or Business Management before joining the Graduate Programme. Candidates with an Engineering degree are also considered.
  • Are interested in how complex engineering and infrastructure projects are planned, coordinated and delivered.
  • Enjoy bringing people together, solving problems and seeing activities through to completion.
  • Have strong organisational skills and feel comfortable managing different priorities and deadlines.
  • Can analyse information, maintain attention to detail and produce clear written work.
  • Communicate confidently and enjoy building relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Are proactive, reliable and willing to take responsibility for agreed actions.
  • Are curious, adaptable and willing to learn from experienced project professionals.

Experience of project work, team assignments, placements, volunteering, societies or part-time employment where you have organised activities, coordinated people or managed deadlines would be beneficial.

What you need to know about the Belfast Tech Scene

If asked to name the birthplace of the RMS Titanic, you might not say Belfast. Similarly, if asked to name Europe's leading destination for foreign direct investment in new software development, Belfast might not come to mind. Yet, both are true. The city has emerged as a tech powerhouse, recently ranked among the best in the U.K. for tech careers — especially for software developers. It also leads the U.K. with the highest percentage of software development jobs advertised.
