Boeing Defence UK (BDUK) is Boeing's onshore defence business and trusted partner to the Ministry of Defence (MoD). Our defence workforce of more than 2,100 people in the UK solve current and emerging defence and security challenges and deliver sustainment, training and support services for the British armed forces.
About the Role
The BDUK System Safety and Environmental Engineering Team is seeking a non-rotational graduate Environmental Engineer to join our collaborative environment. The Environmental Engineering capability is dedicated to ensuring continued compliance with environmental legislation, policy and standards and in identifying, advising, mitigating and reducing environmental risks applicable to Boeing Products, Systems and Services. The role is for a detail-oriented professional who is able to effectively collaborate with multiple stakeholders and across disciplines.
The Environmental Engineering graduate will support the development and update of product and/or service Environmental Cases and substantiating evidence for Boeing products and services supporting the UK Defence interests.
Responsibilities will include supporting in the implementation of the BDUK strategy for identifying, managing and mitigating environmental impacts and risks relating to Boeing products and services, in accordance with existing processes. This will require identifying the environmental aspects and impacts, identifying means of analysing risk and identifying options for improvement and/or control while considering environmental sustainability.
This role provides an opportunity for gaining knowledge of:
  • Applicable environmental legislation, policies and standards, and working across engineering functions to achieve compliance
  • Presenting environmental concepts to stakeholders, senior managers and regular customer engagements
  • Environmental sustainability
  • Supporting the development of programme environmental documentation required to meet contractual deliverables
  • Supporting internal and external environmental audit activities
  • Environmental assessment techniques and processes
  • Building relationships across the wider business

This position may require occasional UK or international travel.
Basic Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office Suite.
  • Good communication skills, with the ability to convey information to diverse audiences.
  • Collaborative mindset with a willingness to work in a team-oriented environment.
  • UK National status is required, and candidates must be eligible for SC clearance.

Desired Skills and Qualifications:
  • Familiarisation of environmental management systems
  • Strong interest in understanding how environmental engineering tasks support sustainability objectives
  • Strong interest in understanding UK environmental legislation, military environmental regulations and defence environmental standards
  • Strong interest in understanding environmental science and engineering topics, in respect to how a source can affect the environment through different pathways
