Job Description
Join our EMEA Emerging Markets Economics team in London, part of Global Research, to analyse macroeconomic drivers and develop forecasts for frontier economies in Europe and Central Asia.
The Emerging Markets Economic Research Team is looking to hire an economist based in London. You need to have a solid economic background and knowledge of political and economic developments related to the EMEA EM region. This role offers exposure to frontier economies and requires a good understanding of macroeconomic data and forecasting techniques.
As an Economist in the Global Research team, you will focus on analyzing macro/fundamental drivers of various economies, creating models, and collaborating with economists and strategists. You will contribute to regular reports and interact with external clients and internal teams to provide insights and forecasts. The environment is dynamic and requires intense work.
Job Responsibilities
- Analyse macro/fundamental drivers of various economies, independently or under the guidance of Senior Economists.
- Create and maintain models and analytical tools.
- Collaborate with the EMEA EM team and other frontier economists in Asia and Latin America.
- Liaise with strategists and other economists to formulate forecasts and views.
- Interact with external clients on customized requests and assist internal sales and trading.
- Contribute to regular EM Edge and EMEA EM reports.
- Compile chart books and templates for weekly/monthly/ad hoc publications.
Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills
- Strong quantitative skills with proven aptitude to analyse macro data and develop econometric models for a range of economies, including oil producers.
- Ability to work with spreadsheets and statistical programming languages/packages (Eviews, R, Python).
- Strong knowledge of regional political, economic, and business trends and prospects.
- Experience within a Research role on the sell-side or buy-side.
- Good written and oral communication skills; attention to detail
This role encompasses the performance of UK regulated activity. The successful candidate will therefore be subject to meeting UK regulatory requirements in the assessment of fitness, propriety, knowledge and competence (as assessed by the Firm) and (where appropriate) approval by the UK Financial Conduct Authority and/or the Prudential Regulation Authority to carry out such activities.
