What this job can offer you

As the Global Payroll Policy & Compliance Lead, you will build and own automated compliance tracking frameworks and real-time compliance dashboards, ensuring payroll operations and product development remain aligned with global regulations.

This role is critical in translating complex regulatory updates into actionable insights for Product, Engineering, Payroll Operations, and Risk & Compliance. Your work will ensure compliance is proactively embedded into our payroll systems, mitigating risks, and supporting business growth in an evolving regulatory landscape.

About the Role

At Remote, compliance isn’t just a box to tick — it’s the foundation of trust for our customers. We’re looking for a Global Payroll Policy & Compliance Lead to help us transform how compliance is tracked, automated, and embedded into payroll systems worldwide.

🎯 What You’ll Do
  • Design and run automated frameworks that track payroll legislation, tax law, CBAs, and social security changes across multiple countries.
  • Translate complex, country-specific compliance requirements into clear technical specifications for payroll engine development.
  • Partner with Product Specialists, Engineers, and Payroll Ops to embed compliance into payroll systems — from requirements gathering through testing and automation-driven validation.
  • Build real-time dashboards, alerting tools, and reporting pipelines so compliance data is always accessible and actionable.
  • Educate product teams on legislation, and ensure compliance changes are implemented correctly through structured testing and automation-first validation.
  • Deliver clear compliance reports and risk updates to leadership, enabling visibility and confident decision-making.
🔎 What You Bring
  • Experience in global payroll compliance, employment law, or tax compliance with exposure to multi-country regulations.
  • Strong technical skills in automation and data integration (SQL, Google Scripts, APIs, Zapier/Make or similar).
  • Proven ability to translate legal and payroll requirements into system logic and technical specifications.
  • Hands-on experience with UAT and automation-based validation to ensure compliance accuracy.
  • Comfort working cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Risk, and Payroll Ops.
  • Clear, concise communication skills in English.

👉 If you’re passionate about turning payroll compliance into scalable, automated systems, we’d love to hear from you.

Practicals
  • You'll report to: Manager, GP Strategy & Compliance
  • Team: RiskCom (GP Strategy & Compliance)
  • Location: For this position we welcome everyone to apply, but we will prioritise applications from the EMEA regions
  • Start date: As soon as possible

We hope to inspire other companies to support global talent-hiring and bring local wealth to developing countries.

At first glance our salary bands seem quite wide - here is some context. At Remote we have international operations and a globally distributed workforce. We use geo ranges to consider geographic pay differentials as part of our global compensation strategy to remain competitive in various markets while we hiring globally.

Our salary ranges are determined by role, level and location, and our job titles may span more than one career level. The actual base pay for the successful candidate in this role is dependent upon many factors such as location, transferable or job-related skills, work experience, relevant training, business needs, and market demands. The base salary range may be subject to change.

  1. Interview with recruiter (30 minutes)
  2. Interview with the team (1 hour and 15 minutes)

What you need to know about the Belfast Tech Scene

If asked to name the birthplace of the RMS Titanic, you might not say Belfast. Similarly, if asked to name Europe's leading destination for foreign direct investment in new software development, Belfast might not come to mind. Yet, both are true. The city has emerged as a tech powerhouse, recently ranked among the best in the U.K. for tech careers — especially for software developers. It also leads the U.K. with the highest percentage of software development jobs advertised.
