The Full Stack Web Engineer will develop and support the API for an iOS application and a web portal, focusing on feature development and working alongside iOS engineers and Product Managers to enhance user experiences. Responsibilities include building products for architecture and design companies, creating user interfaces, maintaining backend systems, and participating in code reviews.

Canvas is at the forefront of revolutionizing the remodeling, architecture and interior design industry through cutting-edge AI and computer vision technology. With our LiDAR-enabled iPhone or iPad scans, we capture precise 3D representations of homes in minutes, providing interactive models with accurate-to-the-inch measurements. Our proprietary process then turns these scans into highly detailed, editable, as-built files in industry-standard formats. Our technology was featured in Apple's keynote when the iPhone's LiDAR sensor was introduced and now we model millions of square feet each month.

We’re an early-stage startup that is growing and ready to accelerate even further. As a global virtual-first company, our team members are distributed worldwide, with a concentration in the US and Europe.

We are looking for an engineer to help us build and support the API for our iOS application, as well as API and frontend for a web portal. Reporting to the Web Lead, this role will involve a healthy mix of feature development, ideal for someone who enjoys working on diverse projects, including API and frontend development. You’ll collaborate closely with iOS engineers, the Platform team, and Product Managers to design and deliver seamless user experiences

What you'll do:

  • Build products and tools that directly help thousands of architecture, design, and renovation companies save time and grow their business with 3D capture, and will help our team serve them better.
  • Develop intuitive and responsive user interfaces as well as the backend systems that support them.
  • Own your projects and use this autonomy to find creative and innovative ways of solving problems and delivering solutions.
  • Participate in code reviews, uphold best practices, and ensure high-quality code across the stack.

You should have:

  • It's a joy to communicate with you in both written and spoken English.
  • You have a strong background in Python, Django, and Django Rest Framework (or similar)
  • You have experience with databases like PostgreSQL, Redis, MongoDB etc.
  • Built or maintained APIs, using monoliths or micro-services.
  • You are familiar with major cloud platforms like AWS, Google Cloud, Azure etc.
  • Designed frontend user experiences that balance functionality with usability, and are familiar with tools like Figma.
  • You are well-versed in frontend technologies such as JavaScript, TypeScript, or modern frameworks like React, Vue, or Angular.
  • The test pyramid has no secrets for you and you stress over the testability of the code you write.
  • Worked in teams using Agile development practices, or others like ShapeUp etc.

Nice to have:

  • You have experience in writing technical documents or proposals, or have given technical presentations.
  • The services you have worked on in the past communicated asynchronously through Kafka, RabbitMQ or similar.
  • You have created new design systems or have extended existing ones with new components.

What you need to know about the Belfast Tech Scene

If asked to name the birthplace of the RMS Titanic, you might not say Belfast. Similarly, if asked to name Europe's leading destination for foreign direct investment in new software development, Belfast might not come to mind. Yet, both are true. The city has emerged as a tech powerhouse, recently ranked among the best in the U.K. for tech careers — especially for software developers. It also leads the U.K. with the highest percentage of software development jobs advertised.
