What is the role?

dotCMS is a cloud-based Digital Experience platform changing how enterprises do digital. We seek a Front-End Engineer to join our dynamic team.

As a Front-End Engineer embedded in the professional services team, you will own and assist in developing new website implementations and enhancing existing functionalities for dotCMS customers. The ideal candidate for this role has advanced English skills, deep experience in JavaScript, and expert-level hands-on experience with JS frameworks: Angular or React with next.js.

This is a full-time on-site contractor position based in Karachi. The work schedule is from 1:00 PM to 10:00 PM local time (UTC+05:00), with a one-hour break. We are currently unable to sponsor or assume sponsorship of employment visas.

What is dotCMS?

Founded in 2003, dotCMS is the most agile, scalable and secure content management system for enterprise. Built on leading Java technology, dotCMS is an open-source, hybrid-headless content management system that gives developers the flexibility of a headless CMS while equipping marketers with no-code visual content authoring. Whether you're building a network of global websites, an employee intranet, a customer portal, or a single-page web application, dotCMS helps you manage content, images, and assets in one centralized location and deliver them to any channel. Some of our notable customers include Telus, Standard & Poors, Hospital Corporation of America, Royal Bank of Canada, Deutsche Bank, Comcast, Vodafone, Thomson Reuters, Dairy Queen, Lennox International, Chewy.com, and O’Reilly Autoparts.

Who are we, really?

At “the dot,” you’ll find a diverse team of authentic individuals who share the goal of building the most agile, scalable, and secure content management system, delighting customers, and having a lot of fun doing it. We’re a curious, innovative, and collaborative group that works from anywhere, having been 100% remote long before a pandemic required it. Working remotely is in our DNA, whether it’s to enjoy the beautiful views of new countries or just more “you” time outside of work. And since we don’t gather around the water cooler in an office, we like to gather around the cool waters of Costa Rica a few times a year for our regular off-sites, where we blow off some steam and re-energize as a group.

What you’ll bring to the team:

  • Participate and own all steps of software development from initial gathering of requirements to project development, documentation, QA support and software maintenance
  • Work with colleagues to develop and maintain high quality web applications, integrations, and plugins within the dotCMS platform and stack.
  • Consult for existing clients by performing work on the dotCMS web content management system.
  • Understand the delivery expectations and tasks that are assigned, and communicate as soon as you suspect potential issues (delay or early).
  • Stay up to date with the latest dotCMS features and best-practices, working with R&D to ensure that you are an SME for all things Front-End on the existing customer side
  • Work across company areas and levels of the organization with ease and without ego and drama

Why we get excited about you:

  • 4+ years of professional experience working with JavaScript, TypeScript, and unit testing frameworks.
  • 4+ years of hands-on experience with JavaScript frameworks such as React with next.js or Angular.
  • Experience with GraphQL, JavaScript library authoring, and UI component development.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
  • Familiarity with the GitHub development.
  • Solid understanding of design systems and the ability to build UI interfaces based on provided designs.
  • Self-Starter who takes initiative and can work independently.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field

What you need to know about the Belfast Tech Scene

If asked to name the birthplace of the RMS Titanic, you might not say Belfast. Similarly, if asked to name Europe's leading destination for foreign direct investment in new software development, Belfast might not come to mind. Yet, both are true. The city has emerged as a tech powerhouse, recently ranked among the best in the U.K. for tech careers — especially for software developers. It also leads the U.K. with the highest percentage of software development jobs advertised.
