Role Overview

Entertainment company BLAST and GamingMalta, an independent non-profit foundation set up by the Government of Malta, have announced a transformative three-year partnership. The partnership will see Malta become a premier destination for world-class esports events and innovation, with BLAST debuting in Malta with the BLAST Premier Bounty S2 in August 2025.

BLAST will support GamingMalta’s mission by investing in local esports initiatives, forging connections with universities and grassroots organisations, and helping create meaningful career opportunities for Maltese players, content creators, and aspiring professionals within the gaming industry.

Reporting into the Head of Market Development, the Community and Grassroots Manager will spearhead BLAST’s community-driven esports initiatives in Malta, focusing on grassroots development, education partnerships, and community engagement. This role is pivotal in delivering a robust programme of events, shadowing experiences, and collaboration with schools, colleges, local esports organisations, and the wider gaming community. The goal is to cultivate local esports talent and build a vibrant, sustainable gaming ecosystem aligned with BLAST’s commitment to excellence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Grassroots & Education Programmes:
    • Develop and deliver a comprehensive programme of grassroots esports initiatives including school and university tournaments, workshops, and online events.
    • Support BLAST in running or sponsoring at least one major school or university event per year, targeting a minimum of 100 online participants.
    • Organise behind-the-scenes tours and shadowing experiences for at least 80 students annually, providing insight into esports operations and careers.
  • Event Management & Coordination:
    • Coordinate and manage school teams or local teams to compete on stage during BLAST’s major esports events in Malta (minimum two teams annually).
    • Run school tournaments and community events (including at the BLAST Studio), maximising venue availability and suitability.
    • Facilitate access for local esports clubs to the BLAST Studio for practice sessions and community tournaments, fostering local player development.
    • Supporting any other tier one events on the island as required in an event management capacity.
  • Community Engagement & Partnerships:
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with local schools, colleges, esports clubs, and community stakeholders.
    • Collaborate closely with local esports organisations to create meaningful engagement opportunities and talent pathways.
    • Promote grassroots initiatives and events through social media, local networks, and BLAST communication channels.
  • Programme Development & Reporting:
    • Design and implement structured shadowing and mentoring programmes to expose students to professional esports environments.
    • Track and report on programme participation, impact, and community feedback to inform continuous improvement.
    • Support broader BLAST strategic objectives for growing esports in Malta through data-driven insights and community feedback.

RequirementsRequired Skills & Experience
  • Proven experience in community management, grassroots sports/esports development, or related fields.
  • Strong event coordination skills, including virtual and live event management.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities with young people, educators, and esports stakeholders.
  • Passion for esports and understanding of the gaming landscape, particularly within Malta.
  • Ability to work independently and proactively manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience working with schools, universities, or community organisations is highly desirable.
