Job DescriptionAbout the role:
You'll be leading the FinCrime Requests Team, which serves as the first point of contact for external investigations involving Wise's customers. This team handles Request for Information (RFI) from partner banks requiring detailed customer activity information for AML, fraud, or sanctions investigations, Law Enforcement requests from authorities and agencies, and Account Freezing Orders (AFO) - legal orders to temporarily block accounts suspected of illegal activity.
This role offers the opportunity to lead a critical domain at the intersection of compliance, customer experience, and operational efficiency.
How we work:
You'll be working alongside a dedicated PM and a team of engineers reporting to you. The operational team currently consists of ~110 internal agents + 15 outsourced agents. You'll be responsible for the overall health and productivity of the engineers within your team, ready to roll your sleeves up and code on a regular basis, getting involved in the entire software development process. You'll support engineers and provide feedback on tech: both code and architecture, help your team to make data-driven decisions, and maintain an overview of what's happening across the organisation while thinking about engineering as a whole.
What will you be working on?
- Build LLM-assisted automation for processing incoming emails and creating cases automatically
- Develop unified tooling merging RFI and LE handling into a single platform with specialized workflows
- Create self-service portals for law enforcement and banking partners
- Implement automated data collection, enrichment, and response generation
Requirements:
- Extensive experience working with Java, Spring framework, asynchronous message queues and have worked with microservices architecture – this is essential
- Hands-on experience leading, coaching and mentoring high performing teams, building development plans and setting personal goals for engineers in your teams
- Comfortable working on big challenges and taking full ownership of the customer journey
- Experience building and designing scalable and performing systems and APIs
- Comfortable with SQL databases, optimisation and transaction
- A passion for international finance, foreign exchange and payment systems
