Job Summary
The Material Engineer is responsible for driving packaging material qualification, material improvements, and supplier quality management to support manufacturing cost, quality, delivery, and risk objectives. This role collaborates closely with Key Material Group (KMG) teams, manufacturing sites, quality, suppliers, and partner organizations to execute material qualification, manage material changes, and ensure laboratory, equipment, and compliance readiness.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Integrates AI-assisted tools and insights into daily work to improve efficiency, quality, or effectiveness, exercising sound judgment and complying with organizational standards and legal requirements.
Contributes to a culture of continuous improvement by identifying, testing, and sharing AI-enabled enhancements within one’s scope of work.
Collaborate with KMG teams and site stakeholders to develop and implement material improvements that reduce cost and improve quality and delivery performance.
Execute packaging material qualification for trays, carrier tapes, formed end caps, moisture barrier bags (MBB), desiccants, and humidity indicator cards.
Plan and perform qualification testing including Electrostatic Discharge (ESD), flatness/warpage, dimensional, drop, vibration, strength, banding, and water leak tests, and generate qualification reports.
Apply statistical and quality tools (8 Disciplines -8D, Statistical Process Control -SPC, Statistical Analysis Software -JMP) to support root cause analysis, qualification, and continuous improvement.
Operate and support laboratory tools and equipment for material qualification and failure analysis.
Maintain 6S (Safety, Sort, Stabilize, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) standards and ensure effective material, sample, and asset management in the material laboratory.
Maintain supplier quality management activities: assess defects identified by Incoming Quality Control (IQC) or manufacturing sites, communicate findings to suppliers, and drive corrective actions using quality tools, Supplier Quality Notification (SQN) or Global Defect Management System (GDMS), in collaboration with IQC, Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE), and Manufacturing.
Ensure laboratory equipment and tools are maintained in good working condition; coordinate troubleshooting, repair, and vendor support as needed.
Conduct change management when material changes are initiated or required by KMG.
Actively share lessons learned and best practices to raise organizational capability.
Maintain strong working relationships with cross‑functional engineers, peer groups, and external partners.
Qualifications
Master’s / Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical discipline.
0-2 Years experience in material qualification, packaging materials, or semiconductor manufacturing support is a plus.
Knowledge and application of quality and statistical analysis tools.
Ability to work independently while effectively supporting global teams
Strong analytical, logical, and critical thinking skills
Effective communicator, able to collaborate across all levels
Growth mindset with a passion for continuous learning
Internship or experience in the semiconductor industry is a plus
Demonstrated leadership and a track record of impact are highly desirable
Interest in and knowledge of the semiconductor industry and Micron is preferred
Ability to apply baseline digital fluency and role‑appropriate AI literacy to use AI‑enabled tools responsibly and effectively for research, analysis, content creation, problem‑solving, operational tasks, and achieving business outcomes.
