This is a high-profile Director-level opportunity for an established technical-commercial specialist who can combine deep subject matter expertise with the ability to build client relationships, develop market presence and convert opportunities into profitable work.

You will join an established international consultancy platform with a strong reputation in fire engineering, safety, security and risk. Working alongside senior colleagues across the UK, Ireland and Europe, you will have the scope to influence strategy, strengthen our process safety proposition and support growth in established and emerging risk sectors.

As Director, Process Safety, you will provide technical and commercial leadership across process safety, specialist fire engineering and industrial risk management. You will help define and evolve our service offering, lead complex client engagements, support proposal and fee generation activity, and represent Jensen Hughes in the market as a credible senior expert.

This role can be based in any of our UK and Ireland offices.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and delivery of a specialist process safety capability across the UK & Ireland.
  • Provide senior technical input on fire and gas detection strategy, gas dispersion modelling, hazard analysis, mitigation system design, facility siting, risk-based design and safety engineering.
  • Advise clients on existing facility modifications, ageing asset management and energy transition risks, including hydrogen and battery energy storage systems.
  • Build and maintain senior client relationships across relevant industry sectors.
  • Convert technical expertise and market insight into commercially successful workstreams.
  • Lead and support proposal development, fee generation and strategic growth planning.
  • Represent Jensen Hughes through industry committees, standards bodies, technical forums, thought leadership, publications and conference activity.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across process safety, fire engineering, industrial safety and adjacent technical disciplines.
  • Mentor technical teams and support knowledge sharing, quality and capability growth.

Requirements and Qualifications

We are looking for an established industry expert who brings the credibility, commercial judgement and leadership presence to grow a strategically important service area. You are likely to bring:

  • A degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer status, or equivalent professional standing.
  • Extensive experience in process safety, fire engineering or industrial risk management.
  • Recognised subject matter expertise in fire and gas systems, hazard analysis and safety studies.
  • Strong commercial acumen, with a proven ability to win and develop business.
  • An established industry reputation and professional network.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary technical teams.
  • Credibility with operators, regulators and senior industry stakeholders.

Key Strengths

  • Strategic leadership and commercial judgement.
  • Business development, client management and relationship building.
  • Technical authority, governance and quality oversight.
  • Consultative influencing skills with senior stakeholders.
  • Market insight and industry presence.
  • Team leadership, mentoring and capability development.

What We Offer

  • A senior platform to build, lead and influence a strategically important growth area.
  • The opportunity to work on complex, high-impact projects with clients operating in technically demanding environments.
  • Collaboration with recognised specialists across fire engineering, process safety, industrial risk, security and resilience.
  • A culture that supports professional development, technical excellence and long-term career progression.
  • The chance to contribute to a purpose-led business focused on making the built and industrial environment safer, more secure and more resilient.

What you need to know about the Belfast Tech Scene

If asked to name the birthplace of the RMS Titanic, you might not say Belfast. Similarly, if asked to name Europe's leading destination for foreign direct investment in new software development, Belfast might not come to mind. Yet, both are true. The city has emerged as a tech powerhouse, recently ranked among the best in the U.K. for tech careers — especially for software developers. It also leads the U.K. with the highest percentage of software development jobs advertised.
