Senior DevOps Engineer

Location: Remote within the UK

Level of clearance: SC

Due to Security clearance requirements candidates must be UK national/British passport holder/Single nationality and resided in the UK for 5 years.

The role:

The DevOps Engineer will be responsible for translating technical requirements into an efficient DevOps toolchain, facilitating product delivery, and providing guidance to junior colleagues. They will ensure deployment strategies are repeatable, scalable, and highly available, leveraging deep technical expertise to support delivery teams and resolve complex issues.

Responsibilities:

  • Developing various infrastructure solutions on MS Azure/ AWS as well as datacenter / private cloud to deliver high availability, rapidly developed, fully automated solutions using predominately open source software which deliver value to the customer. 

  • Providing technical leadership, help and guidance to less experienced members of the team through mentoring, coaching, constructive review and active participation in various technical forums.

  • Advising our customers on the latest technologies and methodologies, designing and implementing innovative approaches to their problems using Automation. 

  • Ensuring software standards are maintained, being able to train and mentor junior staff. Defining processes and procedures to ensure maximum re-use and maintaining standards. 

  • Understanding security policies and implementing solutions that satisfy the security requirements.

  • Designing and implementing solutions which have high availability and are scalable. 

  • Providing feedback and demonstrating to a wider audience solutions currently being developed and introducing the team to new concepts and products. 

Requirements:

  • Excellent experience of working with Windows, Unix or Linux environments.

  • Proven practical experience of working with Infrastructure as Code - Terraform or OpenShift.

  • Proven practical experience with container technology & orchestration - Kubernetes (EKS).

  • Proven practical experience with configuration management tools - Ansible (preferred).

  • Proven practical experience with building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines – I.E. Jenkins.

  • Proven practical experience and knowledge of Cloud based services - AWS or MS Azure.

  • Experience with languages such as Java, JavaScript (React), PowerShell, C# or Python.

  • Working knowledge of databases and SQL.

  • Ability to work within an agile environment, such as knowledge of digital delivery processes and methodologies (Scrum or SAFe).

  • Self-driven and able to support continuous improvement.

  • Good communication (written and verbal), problem solving and negotiation skills.

  • Technical leadership skills.

  • Have a pragmatic and enthusiastic attitude to work independently or within a team.

Desirable Skills

  • Secure by Design experience (SaST, DaST, SCA).

  • Working knowledge/ practical experience in of Authentication and Authorization (Keycloak or OAUTH2).

  • Experience with Quay (Image Registry).

  • Configuring OpenShift Service Mesh (ISTIO).
