About Axiom

Axiom is a recognized leader in the business of law and defined the alternative legal services category more than 20 years ago. While not a law firm, Axiom would rank among the top 10 big law firms by number of lawyers employed.

Axiom manages a diverse global network of legal professionals matched to engagements with Axiom's prestigious clients using a bespoke technology platform. While Axiom has made progress automating this matchmaking process using machine learning, the vast majority of matches are still made manually by Axiom staff.

The role

Axiom is looking for a Data Scientist, Manager to define and build innovative AI, machine learning, and statistical solutions that optimize our bespoke legal talent matchmaking platform. Working in a fast-paced environment where most matches are currently done manually, you will bridge the gap between complex data and business outcomes—challenging the status quo to improve Client, Talent, and internal user experiences.

Specifically, This Role Will

  • Design & Build: Develop advanced AI, ML, and statistical solutions that capture business/customer insights and drive core operational outcomes.
  • Collaborate & Guide: Partner cross-functionally with engineers and product managers while providing technical and scientific guidance to team members.
  • Iterate & Experiment: Continuously interrogate, experiment with, and improve new and existing ML solutions across the platform.

About you:

  • Technical & Data Fundamentals: Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field; 3+ years of SQL proficiency; and 2+ years of experience in data modeling, ETL development, data warehousing, and software engineering best practices (version control, CI/CD, object-oriented programming).
  • Statistical & Machine Learning Modeling: 2+ years of hands-on experience in statistical analysis (hypothesis testing, experimental design) in Python, and machine learning modeling (development, validation, optimization in Python).
  • NLP & Generative AI Expertise: 2+ years researching and developing Natural Language processing projects, including 1+ year incorporating Large Language Models and Agentic AI.
  • End-to-End Project Ownership: 2+ years independently leading projects through the full lifecycle—from stakeholder requirement gathering and scoping through proof-of-concept to fully deployed solutions, reporting, and dashboarding.
  • Stakeholder Management & Autonomy: Strong relationship-building skills with high technical acumen, capable of communicating complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and working autonomously while balancing multiple cross-functional priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's or PhD in computer science, machine learning, mathematics, statistics, or another quantitative field.
  • Experience working with Databricks, Snowflake or similar cloud platforms for end-to-end machine learning projects, including collaborative notebook development, experiment tracking with MLflow, feature engineering at scale, job orchestration and pipeline automation, dashboarding for stakeholder reporting, and production model deployment.
  • Experience working with AWS big data processing technologies, including S3, EC2s, APIs and Spark.
  • Familiarity with NLP and statistical models, Jira, Confluence, and GitLab.
  • Axiom is an equal opportunity employer and committed to a diverse workforce.
  • Based in Northern Ireland

  • Our People Reflect Our Values! We are:
    • Innovative: We generate new, creative, and disruptive ideas to change the status quo in their fields
    • Performance Oriented: We possess an unbelievable work ethic and unwavering commitment to quality
    • Cross-functionally collaborative: We bring others together, creating strong relationships across lines of difference
    • Data & Fact Based: We seek to understand and learn from information and perspectives everywhere
    • Customer First: We aim to delight our clients and legal talent at every opportunity

Accommodation for Individuals with Disabilities: Upon request and consistent with applicable laws, Axiom will attempt to provide reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities who require an accommodation to participate in the application process. To request an accommodation to complete the application form, please contact us at [email protected] and include “Applicant Accommodation” in the subject line.

What you need to know about the Belfast Tech Scene

If asked to name the birthplace of the RMS Titanic, you might not say Belfast. Similarly, if asked to name Europe's leading destination for foreign direct investment in new software development, Belfast might not come to mind. Yet, both are true. The city has emerged as a tech powerhouse, recently ranked among the best in the U.K. for tech careers — especially for software developers. It also leads the U.K. with the highest percentage of software development jobs advertised.
