The Role

As our first dedicated Data Engineer, you’ll have the opportunity to design and build the foundations of our modern data stack. You’ll work closely with product engineers, analysts and stakeholders to integrate, model, and operationalise data from multiple sources, enabling both internal insight and customer-facing data products.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Shape the vision for our data stack and drive its evolution, leading design and implementation.
  • Build and maintain data integrations from OLTP databases, behavioural analytics tools, and external sources.
  • Define the strategy for migrating to dbt. Develop robust and maintainable transformations in to model data for analytics and product use cases.
  • Optimise our Snowflake environment for performance and cost-efficiency.
  • Partner with engineers and stakeholders to deliver both internal analytics and customer-facing data features.
  • Support BI tool selection and adoption and ensure consistent, reliable reporting.
  • Implement monitoring and alerting for data pipelines, and establish processes for ensuring data quality and integrity.
  • Work with the DPO and CISO to ensure secure data handling practices and correct application of relevant privacy and security standards and regulations.
  • Collaborate across teams to define and deliver on data requirements.
Requirements
About you:
  • Strong SQL skills and deep understanding of relational database concepts.
  • Experience with cloud data warehouses (Snowflake preferred) and awareness of cost optimisation strategies.
  • Significant experience with dbt and managing complex ETL/ELT pipelines.
  • Familiarity with BI tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Thoughtspot etc.).
  • Proficient in a modern programming language, preferably Python.
  • Solid software engineering skills, including version control, testing, and CI/CD.
  • Versatile and adaptable – comfortable working across the stack, learning new tools and solving novel problems.
  • You are a great communicator, equally comfortable engaging with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • As well as your skills as a data engineer, you have a good understanding of business metrics and are passionate about solving business problems.
  • Experience in a lean or startup environment a plus.
  • Nice to have: Experience exposing data products via APIs or embedded analytics.
  • Nice to have: Experience operationalising ML/AI workflows and an understanding of underlying models to help monitor, evaluate, and improve them.
