Data Engineer (fix-term)
Job Description
Join SUSE's Data Team and drive our Data Strategy forward! We're seeking a passionate and proactive Data Engineer to play a key role in evolving SUSE into a truly data-driven organization.
This is a 12-month temporary position with potential for extension, offering a unique opportunity to shape our new Data Architecture.
You'll work closely with the Data Architect, Data Engineering TPO (based in the Czech Republic), and other Data Engineers, leveraging your expertise in AWS, ETL processing, and data integration principles. If SQL and Python are your native languages, and you thrive in a collaborative, hands-on environment, we want to hear from you.
What You'll Do:
Architectural Development: Collaborate with the Data Architect and Data Engineering TPO to build and influence the direction of SUSE's new data architecture, translating requirements into agile, iterative deliveries.
Hands-on Development: Actively develop, validate, and unit test components of the data architecture. Provide and receive code reviews, ensuring well-designed, high-quality solutions.
Optimization & Enablement: Proactively identify and drive improvements, challenge decisions, and ensure successful adoption of solutions through clear communication and enablement.
Mentorship & Documentation: Guide junior developers and create comprehensive technical documentation.
What You'll Bring:
Experience: 3+ years in data engineering (ETL, Data Integration, Data Warehousing), with a strong focus on cloud-based solutions.
AWS Expertise: Advanced knowledge of AWS infrastructure (Glue, Redshift, S3, Lambda) and Apache Airflow (E2E DAG creation with best practices).
Data Architecture & Integration: Solid understanding of data warehouse architecture and practical experience extracting, transforming (using AWS Glue, Python, SQL), and loading data from diverse sources (DBs, APIs, Web Services).
Programming Prowess: Proficient in Python for data activities (Pandas, NumPy familiarity a plus) and skilled in designing and writing optimized SQL queries.
Infrastructure as Code: Working knowledge of building and deploying AWS resources via Terraform.
Analytical Tooling: Good knowledge of technical concepts and tools in analytics; experience with Power BI or QuickSight is a plus.
Education: A relevant degree or equivalent practical experience
