We are seeking an Assistant Vice President with knowledge of Investment Banking Operations and a track record of developing data-driven insights, products, and tooling to support the business. This could have been either internally as part of Middle/Back-office operations or externally as a consultant.

You will play a key role in evolving our operational landscape. This involves combining a “data-centric” approach when collaborating with operations colleagues to understand activities and workflow - uncovering critical insights and facilitate measurable improvements. This position involves hands on development (SQL, Python, Looker), straddling business analysis, technology, and data science. It focuses on pioneering rapid turnaround quantitative solutions to enhance efficiency, mitigate risk, and identify new opportunities across operations globally.

What we’ll offer you

A healthy, engaged and well-supported workforce are better equipped to do their best work and, more importantly, enjoy their lives inside and outside the workplace. That’s why we are committed to providing an environment with your development and wellbeing at its centre.

You can expect:

  • Hybrid Working - we understand that employee expectations and preferences are changing. We have implemented a model that enables eligible employees to work remotely for a part of their working time and reach a working pattern that works for them

  • Competitive salary and non-contributory pension

  • 30 days’ holiday plus bank holidays, with the option to purchase additional days

  • Life Assurance and Private Healthcare for you and your family

  • A range of flexible benefits including Retail Discounts, a Bike4Work scheme and Gym benefits

  • The opportunity to support a wide ranging CSR programme + 2 days’ volunteering leave per year

Your key responsibilities

  • Proactively identify, analyze, and translate complex data patterns into compelling, actionable insights that directly influence business decisions within IBO.

  • Apply a rigorous and structured approach to problem-solving, leveraging sophisticated techniques to navigate and interpret large-scale datasets (spanning hundreds of millions of records).

  • Partner with business, technology, and product teams to deconstruct business questions, propose structured problem-solving approaches, and define clear success metrics.

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable workflows to analyze trade & workflow datasets to pinpoint business problems, emerging trends, inefficiencies, anomalies, and behavioral shifts - quantifying their impact to inform strategic interventions.

  • Articulate complex analytical insights through compelling narratives, intuitive dashboards, and impactful visualizations, tailored for diverse financial markets stakeholders to facilitate understanding and drive action.

  • Explore and support the evolution of reactive products into preventative AI/ML tooling where identified patterns suggest actionable interventions, contributing to the bank's digital transformation journey.

Your skills and experience

  • Demonstrable track record in data analytics, adept at manipulating and interpreting massive datasets, and proficient in at least one programming language/BI tooling (e.g., Python, SQL, Alteryx).

  • Experience and business knowledge within Investment Banking Operations, with a strong interest in financial markets, trade lifecycle optimization, market structures, and client behaviors.

  • Structured and logical problem-solving, utilizing exceptional data literacy and critical thinking to effectively communicate nuanced business issues, facilitate collaboration in their exploration, and drive the identification of actionable solutions.

  • Excellent communicator and storyteller, capable of translating complex findings into clear, concise, and impactful business narratives and designing effective dashboards using tools like Looker, Tableau, or Python plotting libraries.

  • Initiative in approaches and a collaborative spirit, contributing effectively to data led initiatives. This involves using AI tooling.

  • Ideally proficient in utilizing AI/ML tools and cloud-based data platforms to build robust and scalable solutions, with hands-on experience in Google Cloud Platform (BigQuery, Vertex AI).

How we’ll support you

  • Coaching and support from experts in your team

  • A culture of continuous learning to aid progression

  • We value diversity and as an equal opportunities’ employer, we make reasonable adjustments for those with a disability such as the provision of assistive equipment if required (e.g. screen readers, assistive hearing devices, adapted keyboards)

What you need to know about the Belfast Tech Scene

If asked to name the birthplace of the RMS Titanic, you might not say Belfast. Similarly, if asked to name Europe's leading destination for foreign direct investment in new software development, Belfast might not come to mind. Yet, both are true. The city has emerged as a tech powerhouse, recently ranked among the best in the U.K. for tech careers — especially for software developers. It also leads the U.K. with the highest percentage of software development jobs advertised.
