THE ROLE

Legal Counsel- UK

We’re seeking a UK-qualified Legal Counsel to serve as the go-to legal partner for our growing UK business. This is a foundational role supporting a wide range of legal matters—employment, privacy, commercial contracting, logistics, and product compliance.

You’ll work closely with cross-functional partners in operations, HR, logistics, marketing, and customer service to help launch and scale our UK presence in a compliant, efficient, and customer-first way.

Responsibilities

Generalist Legal Support:

  • Serve as the primary legal contact for all UK-based teams and issues
  • Provide strategic and day-to-day counsel across a range of commercial and regulatory matters

Employment & Labor:

  • Draft and maintain UK employment agreements, offer letters, and workplace policies
  • Advise on onboarding, terminations, restructures, and performance issues
  • Support cross-functional teams with employee-related inquiries and compliance

Data Privacy & Consumer Protection:

  • Oversee compliance with GDPR, including data subject rights, transfer mechanisms, and cookie compliance
  • Advise on marketing practices, pricing strategies, and consumer-facing content
  • Collaborate on privacy policies, terms of service, and consent flows

Commercial Contracts & Operations:

  • Review and negotiate vendor contracts, logistics agreements, and SaaS licenses
  • Provide legal support for fulfillment operations, including 3PL, warehouse, and distribution arrangements
  • Ensure compliance with product labeling, environmental standards, and trade regulations

Risk & Governance:

  • Support regulatory licensing, reporting, and interactions with UK authorities (e.g., ICO, Trading Standards)
  • Develop and scale internal compliance processes
  • Help manage disputes, pre-litigation matters, and liaise with outside counsel as needed

Qualifications

Required:

  • UK-qualified solicitor with 4+ years PQE (post-qualification experience)
  • Strong generalist background, ideally with both top-tier law firm training and in-house experience at a high-growth company
  • Experience with UK employment law, privacy (GDPR), and consumer-facing e-commerce operations
  • Ability to manage contracts, provide pragmatic legal advice, and operate independently
  • Comfortable working cross-functionally with business stakeholders and distributed teams
  • Proactive, business-minded, and hands-on—with a bias toward execution and clarity

Preferred:

  • Experience supporting EU expansion or multi-jurisdictional compliance
  • Exposure to product liability, warehouse/logistics contracts, or sustainability regulations
  • Familiarity with e-commerce tech platforms or consumer brands

What We Offer

  • Opportunity to be the first legal hire in the UK and shape Quince’s legal strategy across EMEA
  • A fast-paced, mission-driven environment where legal is a key partner to the business
  • Competitive compensation and equity

What you need to know about the Belfast Tech Scene

If asked to name the birthplace of the RMS Titanic, you might not say Belfast. Similarly, if asked to name Europe's leading destination for foreign direct investment in new software development, Belfast might not come to mind. Yet, both are true. The city has emerged as a tech powerhouse, recently ranked among the best in the U.K. for tech careers — especially for software developers. It also leads the U.K. with the highest percentage of software development jobs advertised.
