⭐ Our Compliance Advisory team

We’re looking for a Payments Compliance Advisory Manager to join our second line of defence (2LoD).

We’re looking for a pragmatic and collaborative compliance manager with good knowledge of the Payment Services Regulation (PSR), FCA handbook sections relevant to payments, conduct rules and other associated regulations. You’ll have hands-on experience of providing compliance advice and conduct risk assessments. You must also be passionate about Monzo's mission to make money work for everyone.

This role will have day-to-day responsibility for advising the Payment Collective on compliance matters (e.g Payment services, International Transactions, FX rate services and Multi Currency Accounts, Issuing and Acquiring services, Open Banking including AIS & PIS, Strong Customer Authentication, tokenised deposits and stablecoins, consumer duty and conduct risk). This role reports directly to Monzo’s Senior Compliance Advisory Manager responsible for advising the Payments Collective.

At Monzo we do things differently: we truly care about providing a phenomenal experience for our customers. We believe there’s a better way to do banking, and we want to be the best possible (fully compliant!) bank without getting stuck in the old ways of doing things. We operate a “three lines of defence” model of risk management at Monzo: you’ll be working in 2LoD as part of our Risk and Compliance Collective, in the Compliance Team.

🔑 You’ll play a key role by...

  • Being the first point of contact for compliance advice on payment products and services.
  • Providing clear and proactive compliance advice to the payment collective, especially on PSRs and Consumer Duty.
  • Reviewing customer journeys and communications to help the business deliver good customer outcomes, and flagging any risks.
  • Advising Marketing and Financial Promotion teams on financial promotion rules and guidance.
  • Conducting regular horizon scanning and advising on upcoming changes to regulatory requirements that impact payments products and services.
  • Overseeing regulatory breaches and incidents in relation to payment services. Including supporting timely assessment and regulatory notification of major payment incidents.
  • Learning about the wider Monzo products and services (personal and business bank accounts, security, technology and platform, Operations and customer support including complaints and disputes)

This role requires strong communication & collaboration skills with a ‘ hands-on ’ approach, to ensure that regulations are fully understood, our products are ‘compliant by design’ and our customers' needs are being met.

🤩 We’d love to hear from you if…

  • You know the PSRs, FCA handbook sections relevant to payments and Consumer Duty rules inside out
  • You've got hands-on experience advising on Payment products and services, ideally from working at a bank (issuing and/or acquiring experience) or E-money Institution.
  • You like to be where the action is and thrive in fast paced environments.
  • You're a great communicator and problem-solver, good at weighing risks and finding balanced solutions.
  • You can work independently and juggle changing priorities.
  • You're good at building strong relationships with different teams.
  • You're passionate about compliance and excited about the future of banking!

What you need to know about the Belfast Tech Scene

If asked to name the birthplace of the RMS Titanic, you might not say Belfast. Similarly, if asked to name Europe's leading destination for foreign direct investment in new software development, Belfast might not come to mind. Yet, both are true. The city has emerged as a tech powerhouse, recently ranked among the best in the U.K. for tech careers — especially for software developers. It also leads the U.K. with the highest percentage of software development jobs advertised.
