About the role
In this role, you will lead the European Energy procurement category with a strong focus on energy expertise—particularly in areas such as renewable generation, energy sourcing, market structures, legislation, and emerging technologies. While procurement experience is important, your specialist knowledge of the energy sector will be the key driver of success.
You will shape and execute energy‑related strategies across European sites, support the transition to sustainable and cost‑efficient energy solutions, and collaborate closely with internal and external partners.
This role can be based in the Netherlands, the UK, or Germany.
How you will contribute
- Act as the organization’s energy subject‑matter expert, bringing deep knowledge of the European energy landscape, renewables, and related technologies.
- Develop and implement the European energy procurement strategy, ensuring alignment with sustainability goals, market developments, and operational needs.
- Conduct in‑depth analyses of energy markets, including regulations, pricing drivers, infrastructure dynamics, and supplier capabilities.
- Lead strategic sourcing initiatives for energy, including renewable supply contracts, cPPAs, self‑generation opportunities, and energy‑efficiency solutions.
- Guide major projects such as:
- European energy sourcing strategy execution
- Smart‑metering implementation across sites
- Feasibility assessments for self‑generation (solar, wind, battery, hydrogen, nuclear exploration, etc.)
- Regional supplier consolidation
- Build and maintain strong relationships with energy suppliers, technology partners, regulators, and internal technical teams.
- Support innovation by identifying emerging energy solutions and market opportunities (e.g., storage, flexibility markets, decentralized generation).
- Collaborate with Real Estate, Engineering, Sustainability, and HSEQ teams to design and implement energy initiatives.
- Lead strategic contract management and negotiate energy agreements based on commercial, technical, and regulatory considerations.
- Oversee cost‑optimization activities while ensuring compliance, risk mitigation, and alignment with long‑term strategic goals.
- Conduct supplier evaluations, risk assessments, performance reviews, and site visits when required.
What you will bring
- Strong understanding of the energy sector, including renewable energy, sourcing models, infrastructure, regulatory frameworks, and market trends.
- Demonstrated experience in energy procurement, energy strategy, or a technical/market-focused energy role.
- Ability to evaluate and negotiate energy contracts from both commercial and technical perspectives.
- Experience with projects related to self‑generation, smart metering, power purchase agreements (including cPPAs), or similar energy initiatives.
- Familiarity with European energy legislation and regional differences in market design.
- Comfort working with technical data, cost drivers, and market analytics to support decision‑making.
- Ability to engage with technical experts, sustainability teams, engineers, and external energy partners.
- Strong stakeholder‑management skills across diverse, international environments.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to simplify complex energy topics for non‑experts.
- An analytical and strategic mindset, with the ability to translate market insights into actionable procurement strategies.
- Relevant qualifications in energy, engineering, procurement, or a related discipline (e.g., CIPS/NEVI is helpful but not essential if strong energy expertise is present).
- Willingness to travel within Europe (approx. 10%).
- Proficiency in English; additional languages are a plus.
