Business Analyst – Job Specification Role Overview

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Business Analyst to join our team. In this role, you will bridge the gap between business needs and technical solutions by documenting workflows, driving cross-functional alignment, and coordinating end-to-end user acceptance testing. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, capable of driving initiatives forward with general direction, and comfortable working hands-on with both business stakeholders and technical teams.

Key Responsibilities Process Analysis & Documentation
  • Map, analyse, and document current ("as-is") and future-state ("to-be") business processes using standard process modelling notations (e.g., swimlanes, flowcharts).
  • Translate complex business requirements into clear functional specifications, user stories, acceptance criteria, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Identify process bottlenecks and propose practical, value-driven process improvements.
Meeting Facilitation & Action Tracking
  • Facilitate stakeholder workshops and elicitation sessions; capture key discussion points, design decisions, and risks.
  • Produce concise, high-impact meeting summaries and circulate them to stakeholders in a timely manner.
  • Own and actively manage action items, following up independently across teams to ensure timely resolution without requiring routine escalation.
Testing & User Acceptance (UAT)
  • Translate business and functional requirements into comprehensive test scenarios, test cases, and test scripts.
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute User Acceptance Testing (UAT) in direct partnership with business end-users and subject matter experts.
  • Triage, log, and track defects, collaborating with development and vendor teams to verify fixes and ensure system readiness prior to release.
  • Support end-users with training materials, quick-reference guides, and walkthroughs during rollouts.
Delivery & Autonomy
  • Operate independently day-to-day under high-level guidance, proactively identifying next steps and managing priorities to meet project milestones.
  • Serve as a reliable point of contact between business units, technical teams, and project managers.

Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience: Proven experience as a Business Analyst, Systems Analyst, or in a closely related requirements-gathering role.
  • Autonomy & Problem-Solving: Demonstrated ability to manage workloads independently, demonstrate initiative, and resolve roadblocks with sensible guidance rather than constant supervision.
  • Process Mapping: Strong skills in creating structured process maps and documentation using tools such as Visio or Miro.
  • Testing Competency: Hands-on experience writing structured test cases and facilitating UAT cycles.
  • Communication & Facilitation: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with a talent for synthesising detailed discussions into actionable summaries.
  • Stakeholder Management: Ability to engage confidently with both technical teams and non-technical business stakeholders across various seniority levels.

Desirable / Nice-to-Have
  • PAS (ideally Eclipse) knowledge within the London Market.

Familiarity with data analysis or query tools (e.g., SQL, Excel advanced functions) to support data validation during testing

As part of a leading global data and artificial intelligence ("AI") company, you can look forward to:

  • A competitive salary with a generous bonus, private healthcare, critical illness life assurance at 4 x your annual salary, income protection insurance, and a rewarding pension.

  • EXL provides everyday financial well-being solutions, such as cash back cards, in which you can earn cashback while enjoying discounts, promotions, and offers from top retailers. We also offer a Cycle Scheme where you can save money on bikes and cycling accessories.

  • At EXL, we are committed to providing our employees with the tools and resources they need to succeed and excel in their careers. • EXL employees are eligible to purchase stock as part of our Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP).

  • At EXL, we offer a flexible hybrid working model that allows employees to live a balanced, healthy lifestyle while strengthening our culture of collaboration.

To be considered for this role, you must already be eligible to work in the United Kingdom.

What you need to know about the Belfast Tech Scene

If asked to name the birthplace of the RMS Titanic, you might not say Belfast. Similarly, if asked to name Europe's leading destination for foreign direct investment in new software development, Belfast might not come to mind. Yet, both are true. The city has emerged as a tech powerhouse, recently ranked among the best in the U.K. for tech careers — especially for software developers. It also leads the U.K. with the highest percentage of software development jobs advertised.
