The Bermuda Finance Manager serves as the lead Finance executive on-island and will be responsible to oversee, coordinate and ensure that all of the finance functions responsibilities and deliverables to support the Bermuda operations are being delivered on a timely and accurate basis. This includes responsibilities related to financial reporting, regulatory reporting and capital, liquidity management and forecasting and planning. This role will work closely with work closely with the General Manager of Bermuda and will lead and set goals for the local finance team, to organize the finance department of the Bermuda operations while embracing improvement of finance processes and run a ‘best in class’ finance function.
About the Role
- Ensure that all Economic Balance Sheet, Statutory Financial Statement and US GAAP reporting requirements (Annual, Quarterly, and adhoc) of the Bermuda entity are met on time and to the standards required by the Bermuda Monetary Authority. Coordinate efforts and collaborate with other partners of Finance, including Controllership, Tax, Treasury, Capital Planning and FP&A to ensure Finance is delivering on all its deliverables and responsibilities to the Bermuda operations.
- Maintain current earnings, capital and liquidity projections for the Bermuda operations in partnership with FP&A, Treasury, Actuarial and Capital Planning.
- Foster excellent working relationships with other departments, such as Enterprise Risk Management, Internal Audit and others
- Ensure requests from Internal and External Auditors are addressed, ensure full compliance, build and maintain controls as appropriate
- Review and sign off on significant and/or adhoc transactions for the Bermuda entity such as dividends, loans, material accounting changes, commutations, capital events, etc.
- Oversee all elements of monthly, quarterly and year-end close processes. Ensure all accounts are reconciled and reviewed, review intercompany reconciliations and settlements
- Coordinate with actuarial team for the quarterly assessment of reserves, and adhoc reserve studies, while ensuring compliance with actuarial practices and local standards
- Review of new reinsurance deals, renewal of existing transactions, and any other material transactions to ensure profitability targets are achieved and assess impacts to Capital, Cash Flows and other significant financial metrics
Experience Required
- Qualified accountant (CA CPA, ACCA or equivalent) with at least ten years post-qualification experience in the (re)insurance industry
- Extensive current working knowledge of Bermuda regulatory account and reporting requirements for Class E Companies as well as proficiency with US GAAP
- Strong financial acumen with ability to communicate and express ideas both clearly and concisely with Senior Executives, Regulators and Auditors
- Operate with a enterprise mindset, leading with industry expertise, a strategic focus and capacity for calculated decision-making
- Ability to adapt and innovate by evaluating the enterprise and industry environment for strategic shifts that can generate new opportunities for future success
