Who are we?
Our Mission is to empower our financial services customers to better understand their clients’ needs and to provide them with data services and embedded technologies that deliver highly personalised, lifelong financial relationships."
As an enterprise B2B2C company, our clients roll out our technology to improve their customers journey and enhance their financial outcomes. We do this through an API-first approach that streamlines access to our market-leading Categorisation, Decisioning, and Analytics engines, together with Payments Initiation. In doing so we deliver actionable insights with reduced transaction costs, accelerated settlements, and a safer, more convenient customer experience.
We’re a regulated entity offering AISP, PISP, and CISP services, trusted by leading banks, insurers, asset and wealth managers, pension companies, financial advisors, and fintechs to enhance financial outcomes for their clients.
💰 What do we offer?
We have offices in London and Bristol together with access to co-working space. We offer the opportunity to work remotely (role, business and client dependent) with support for your home office set-up if required. We have regular all company away days and other company, client and team meetings, your attendance at which will be mandatory.
Whilst this will be a remote first role we ask that applicants are based within commutable distance to either London or Bristol for regular in person meetings with the team.

Requirements
Mission for the Role
Your mission is to stabilize, scale, and evolve our event-driven architecture. You will replace a key senior figure, taking ownership of high-throughput microservices and the underlying infrastructure that powers our financial data processing. You are here to ensure our systems are resilient, performant, and capable of handling complex data flows across both cloud and on-premise environments
Core Responsibilities
Engineering & Technical Execution (50%)
- High-Throughput Systems: Develop and optimize Node.js microservices designed for massive scale and low latency.
+1 - Event-Driven Architecture: Manage and refine our Kafka implementation and broader event-driven patterns to ensure data integrity and system decoupling.
- Full-Stack Backend Ownership: Maintain and optimize our data layer, specifically working with PostgreSQL.
Architecture & Infrastructure Strategy (30%)
- Hybrid Infrastructure: Oversee the engineering and deployment of services across AWS and GCP via Kubernetes.
+1 - System Design: Identify bottlenecks in the current architecture and propose/execute long-term structural improvements.
Collaboration & Technical Leadership (20%)
- Internal Consultancy: Act as the technical authority for high-performance systems, advising on "build vs. buy" and architectural trade-offs.
- Process Evolution: Contribute to the maturity of our CI/CD, monitoring, and alerting frameworks to ensure 24/7 reliability.
Success Profile: The First 9 Months
At 3 Months (Onboarding & Integration)
- System Fluency: Demonstrates a deep understanding of the Moneyhub event-driven mesh and specific Kafka implementation.
- Initial Impact: Has successfully audited and delivered at least one high-priority fix or optimization within the core microservices.
- Relationship Building: Established trust with the engineering team as a reliable, senior-level peer.
At 6 Months (Ramp & Stability)
- Ownership: Has taken full ownership of a major service area, significantly reducing technical debt or improving throughput metrics.
+1 - Infrastructure Fluency: Is independently managing deployments and troubleshooting issues across K8s and AWS/On-prem environments.
- Measurable Performance: Can demonstrate a quantifiable improvement (e.g., latency reduction or cost optimization) in a high-traffic area.
At 9 Months (Full Productivity & Strategy)
- Architectural Influence: Has contributed to the long-term architectural roadmap, moving beyond maintenance to proactive scaling.
- Trusted Advisor: Functions as the "go-to" expert for high-performance backend challenges across the department.
- Mission Alignment: Consistent delivery of high-value features that support Moneyhub’s growth in the financial data sector.
- Strong experience building high-throughput, low-latency backend systems in production
- Deep understanding of distributed systems, scalability, and performance trade-offs
- Hands-on experience designing and operating microservice-based architectures
- Solid experience with relational databases, including schema design, query optimisation, and performance tuning (e.g. PostgreSQL or similar)
- Experience deploying and operating services on Kubernetes in cloud environments (AWS and/or GCP)
- Proven ability to identify architectural bottlenecks and lead meaningful technical improvements
- Confidence operating at senior level: influencing technical direction, making pragmatic trade-offs, and supporting other engineers
- A delivery-focused mindset, balancing long-term technical quality with business outcomes aligned to Moneyhub’s mission
Helpful but Not Essential
- Commercial experience with Node.js in high-performance or high-scale environments
- Experience working with Kafka or other event-streaming platforms (e.g. Pulsar, Kinesis, RabbitMQ)
- Prior exposure to event-driven architectures and asynchronous data processing
- Experience operating hybrid or multi-cloud environments
- Background in financial services, fintech, or data-heavy platforms
- Familiarity with observability tooling (metrics, logging, tracing) in 24/7 production systems
