Description

Sword is a leading provider of business technology solutions within the Energy, Public and Finance Sectors, driving transformational change within our clients.  We use proven technology, specialist teams and domain expertise to build solid technical foundations across platforms, data, and business applications.  We have a passion for using technology to solve business problems, working in partnership with our clients to help in achieving their goals.

About the Role:

As an Azure DevOps Engineer, you’ll be instrumental in designing and delivering infrastructure and automation solutions across Azure cloud environments. You’ll collaborate with product and delivery teams to build and maintain platform capabilities, implement DevSecOps principles, and champion best practices that drive delivery efficiency and operational excellence.

You’ll work hands-on with tools like Terraform, GitHub, and Azure DevOps to build Infrastructure as Code (IaC), create robust CI/CD pipelines, and develop self-service tooling that empowers delivery teams. You’ll also contribute to cloud governance, resilience, and security—working closely with the Enterprise Architecture and Cyber Security teams to ensure environments are well-managed and compliant.

This contract offers the opportunity to make a real impact—delivering scalable, secure cloud solutions within a supportive, fast-paced environment.

As the Azure DevOps Engineer, you will:

  • Design, deploy, and manage secure, scalable infrastructure on Microsoft Azure.
  • Build and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.
  • Develop and optimise CI/CD pipelines with Azure DevOps and GitHub.
  • Automate platform provisioning and support self-service tooling.
  • Work closely with delivery teams to troubleshoot, optimise, and evolve cloud environments.
  • Contribute to logging, monitoring, patching, and resilience strategies.
  • Collaborate with Architecture and Cyber teams to ensure governance, compliance, and security.
  • Share knowledge and promote best practice in cloud and DevOps engineering across the wider team.
Requirements
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure (some AWS experience is a bonus).
  • Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (Terraform preferred).
  • Experience with source control (e.g. GitHub) and CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps).
  • Familiarity with containerisation technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, or Podman.
  • Scripting or automation using languages like Python, PowerShell, or Go.
  • A collaborative mindset with the ability to adapt in an Agile, fast-paced environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a commitment to engineering excellence.

What you need to know about the Belfast Tech Scene

If asked to name the birthplace of the RMS Titanic, you might not say Belfast. Similarly, if asked to name Europe's leading destination for foreign direct investment in new software development, Belfast might not come to mind. Yet, both are true. The city has emerged as a tech powerhouse, recently ranked among the best in the U.K. for tech careers — especially for software developers. It also leads the U.K. with the highest percentage of software development jobs advertised.
