This is a stand-alone role within our new Birmingham office, offering a high degree of autonomy while also providing the opportunity to collaborate with a dispersed team across multiple locations. As an Assistant Quality Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the quality assurance processes, to drive continuous improvement, and implementing best practices to enhance service quality in our fleet operations teams.  We are looking for an experienced Assistant Quality Manager with the ability to critically evaluate and challenge existing processes by closely collaborating with cross-functional operations teams to maintain and improve ways of working.  You’ll be comfortable working pro-actively and, managing your own audits, as well as confident communicating with external stakeholders. Your role is critical in upholding our reputation, minimising risks, and maintaining a competitive edge in the fleet management industry.

For the first 6 months you’ll need to spend at least 5 days a week in the office learning about the business and ways of working before we move you over to our hybrid model of Tues-Thurs in the office whilst working from home on a Monday and Friday, so please bear this in mind when applying. This is a permanent opportunity, and the salary is circa £50,000 per year dependent on qualifications and experience.

Key Responsibilities will include:

  • To manage the day-to-day Quality function in Birmingham ensuring adherence to ISO 9001 standards
  • To promote ISO 9001 through training and maintain the standards whilst maturing the QMS in line with Chippenham office
  • Identify inefficiencies in processes through regular review and audits maintaining a schedule that covers all departments.
  • Lead and conduct internal audits to evaluate compliance with ISO 9001 and internal policies.
  • Monitor and manage non-conformities as they arise – using root case analysis and corrective actions as required
  • Provide regular reports on ISO 9001 compliance, audit results, and quality metrics.

What are we looking for?

Education and/or Training:

  • ISO 9001 Lead Auditor or Internal Auditor certification (essential).
  • Lean Six Sigma green belt or equivalent qualification (essential).
  • Proficient in various desktop tools including MS Office Programs (i.e. Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, SharePoint etc.)

Relevant Work Experience:

  • 3-5+ years’ experience, including 2+ at a leadership level
  • At least 2-3 years of experience in quality management or related roles, in an ISO 9001 environment.
  • Experience in conducting internal/external audits and working with quality systems.
  • Experience of people management.
  • Breadth and depth of technical or functional expertise in own area of responsibility or department; may be acquiring knowledge of other related areas of departments
  • Developing and implementing processes, methods, and tools to increase efficiency and accuracy
  • Strong understanding of ISO 9001:2015 standards and quality management principles.
  • Knowledge of audit procedures, corrective action (CAPs).

  • Manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs
  • Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets
  • Has full authority for personnel actions
  • Extensive knowledge of department processes
  • Contributes to the development of vision and strategy
  • Works with other leaders to develop a common departmental vision or strategy
  • Adapts area/departmental plans and priorities to address business and operational challenges
  • Identifies and resolves technical, operational and organisational problems
  • Adjusts quickly to new or changing work environment
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent time management skills, with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills
  • Applies management expertise to set direction, resolve problems and provide guidance to employees in own area of responsibility or department
  • Manages team projects and project plans through execution
  • Influences or provides input to forecasting and planning resources; may manage allocated budget
  • Decisions are guided by policies, procedures and department or business plan; receives guidance from manager

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, counselling, negotiation, and customer service skills
  • Anticipates and interprets customer needs to identify solutions
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Effectively coaches, gives performance feedback and provides development opportunities within own area of responsibility or department
  • Interaction with others requires understanding, influencing and supporting people, through applying technical knowledge or rational arguments, aimed at causing action or acceptance by others
