Manage operations of assigned Midwest manufacturing plants to ensure efficient production, on-time orders, high product quality (ASTM compliance), facility maintenance, safety, merchandising support, manager training, and financial oversight including payroll and inventory control.
Position Summary:
Manage all operations of their assigned Midwest Manufacturing production facilities. Enforce all standard operating procedures as well as MM Policy and Procedure as a whole to make sure all Plants are operating in uniformity.
Primary Responsibilities / Assist the General Plant Manager in:
Production
- Ensure that all product is built in the most efficient way
- Ensure that all orders are filled within an acceptable lead time
- Set and evaluate production goals. Push plants to achieve
- Review production schedules with Plant Managers to make sure we are in-stock for upcoming ads
Quality
- Ensure that all product is of the highest quality
- Review QC program with managers at each site to make sure paperwork and procedures are being followed
- Ensure products at each plant meet any/all ASTM specifications and keep certification up-to-date
- Work with Plant Managers to make sure we are buying the best raw materials for the best price. Keep our Raw Materials pricing summary up to date at all times
Facility Maintenance and Utilization
- Keep all production facilities in good repair, orderly, and clean
- Use equipment to capacity to fill orders
- Maintain a 5-year capacity plan. Propose new equipment or procedures, with substantiation, to prevent capacity problems
Safety
- Ensure all safety policies are enforced, all training is up to date, and all equipment is guarded and well maintained.
- Keep all safety training and maintenance documented
- Keep open communication with all Team Members regarding safety issues
Merchandising Product Lines
- Provide feedback to General Plant Manager to help merchandise product lines to the Menard Merchandise Manager and Buyer to acquire floor space and advertising, and increase sales for Midwest Manufacturing products
- Attend ad/buyer meetings
Training
- Be a mentor for the Managers at the Sites
- Focus on developing Manager Trainees. Guide the Manager Trainees in the beginning of employment to make them feel more comfortable and become more knowledgeable in their surroundings. Make sure the Plant Managers and Assistant Managers are doing the same.
- Provide Manager Trainees, Assistant Mangers, and Plant Managers with feedback about their strengths and weaknesses
Financials
- Keep Org Charts at each Site up to date to ensure the best possible Payroll-to-Sales numbers
- Analyze all operating expenses and provide feedback/proposals to General Plant Manager on how to reduce
- Verify and approve Payroll in Managers’ absence
- Balance inventory and reduce stock to ensure maximum turn and in-stock position.
Position Requirements:
- Minimum 7 years experience with Midwest Manufacturing, or equivalent experience or training
- Minimum 5 years supervisory experience
- Working knowledge of modern sales and management methods and techniques
- Able to write and speak clearly and accurately
- Able to speak publicly in front of groups of 10-200 people
- Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships
- Able to tactfully deal with guests and Team Members
