Research and assess Asia-based fund managers, investment strategies, and managed products. Lead manager interviews, develop rating notes and research reports, formulate investment opinions, contribute to thought leadership, and help shape research methodologies. The role also involves analytical assignments, stakeholder engagement, administrative work, and collaboration with global investment, research, data, and software teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Research and critically assess fund managers and their products that are primarily managed in Asia.
- Lead fund manager interviews and write succinct and reader-friendly rating notes and research reports.
- Play a lead role in formulating and justifying our opinions on investment strategies to both internal and external stakeholders.
- Regularly contribute to the regional and local thought leadership agendas to strengthen Morningstar’s research brand recognition.
- Help shape Morningstar methodologies.
- Handle ad-hoc analytical assignments on investments, managed funds, and products.
- To undertake other administrative, research and/or analytical work as required.
Requirements:
- A passion for investing and for helping investors make better investment decisions.
- Independent thinker with 3-5 years of financial industry experience, preferably in fund manager due diligence. Backgrounds in other research or analytical disciplines may also be considered.
- A solid understanding of Asia-based investment managers, where proven expertise across equities, fixed income, multi-asset asset classes would be viewed favourably;
- Ability to work within a global and interdisciplinary team that includes investment experts, qualitative researchers, data analysts, and software developers.
- Superior verbal and written English communication skills, with the ability to think and write creatively. Chinese language skills are viewed favorably.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Ability to use own initiative and work unsupervised together with the ability to prioritise effectively and work in a methodical manner to meet deadlines.
- Skilled with PC and mainstream software packages. Experience with Morningstar Direct is an advantage.
- Proactive in building effective internal and external relationships with key stakeholders and acting as a representative of Morningstar.
- Bachelor’s degree; advanced degrees and certifications are desirable.
- CFA designation or enrollment is an asset.
