The Director of Data – EMEA will lead a regional team of data and modelling professionals responsible for developing and enhancing Energy Exemplar’s European datasets across electricity, gas, hydrogen, and emerging energy markets.
Reporting to the VP of Data and Insights, this role combines strategic leadership with deep technical understanding to ensure the delivery of accurate, high-quality, and simulation-ready datasets within PLEXOS, aligned with customer needs and evolving market dynamics.
The Director will drive cross-functional collaboration with product, insights, and go-to-market teams to align data initiatives with strategic business objectives and global standards. They will provide visionary leadership, fostering a high-performance culture that promotes innovation, accountability, and professional growth.
This position plays a pivotal role in ensuring Energy Exemplar’s data assets remain reliable, consistent, and future-focused, supporting informed decision-making across the energy sector.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
- Lead, mentor, and develop a regional team of data specialists, analysts, and subject matter experts across electricity, gas, and emerging energy markets.
- Define and execute the regional data strategy, ensuring alignment with global objectives and long-term business priorities.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement, with a strong focus on excellence and professional development.
- Drive the adoption of new technologies and methodologies, including AI/ML approaches, to enhance data efficiency and analytical capability.
Data Development & Quality Assurance
- Oversee the creation and calibration of simulation-ready datasets in PLEXOS, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and market relevance.
- Guide the development and enhancement of gas, electricity, and hydrogen models, incorporating emerging technologies and decarbonisation trends.
- Ensure robust data validation and quality control processes are in place, maintaining high standards of integrity and reliability.
- Support the integration of new PLEXOS Platform features and contribute to the evolution of Insights and Playbook Products.
Customer & Stakeholder Engagement
- Partner with internal and external stakeholders to understand use cases, client requirements, and evolving data needs.
- Deliver clear and strategic data product roadmaps that support customer modelling and forecasting requirements.
- Collaborate with business development teams to provide data expertise for customer demonstrations, proposals, and webinars.
- Represent Energy Exemplar at industry events and forums, contributing to thought leadership in energy data and modelling excellence.
Strategic Contribution
- Contribute to the formulation and execution of the global data strategy, ensuring regional initiatives are aligned with company-wide goals.
- Stay informed of market trends, regulatory developments, and emerging technologies impacting energy data and modelling.
- Identify opportunities to expand and improve dataset offerings to meet the changing needs of customers and markets.
Skills & Experience Required
- 6+ years Proven experience as a people manager of Direct Reports leading data, modelling, or analytics teams within the energy or technology sector.
- Strong understanding of European energy markets, including electricity, gas, and emerging hydrogen sectors.
- Experience in European short- and medium-term energy trading markets.
- Demonstrated expertise in energy market modelling, ideally using PLEXOS or similar tools.
- Strong knowledge of market fundamentals such as supply/demand balance, capacity, and price formation.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with a customer-centric and commercially aware mindset.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to balance visionary leadership and hands-on operational management.
- Degree in Engineering, Economics, Energy Systems, or related field; postgraduate qualification preferred.
