About the role
We’re seeking a Director of Platform Engineering to define and govern the blueprints, patterns, and orchestration that unify our platform capabilities into a seamless developer experience. While peers own specific platforms—Kubernetes, Kafka, CI/CD, observability, identity, and more—your role is to connect the dots: broker demand, design reference architectures, and ensure these capabilities integrate into a coherent, secure, and scalable ecosystem.
This is a platform-as-product leadership role focused on demand management, design governance, and delivery orchestration across Product, Engineering, CIO, and partner technology groups.
What you’ll own
Blueprints & Patterns
Define end-to-end platform blueprints that combine multiple capabilities (e.g., CI/CD + Kubernetes + Kafka + security + observability) into golden paths for engineering teams.
Establish reference architectures, reusable patterns, and guardrails for cloud-native delivery.
Ensure interoperability and consistency across platform domains owned by peers.
Demand Management & Intake
Own the platform intake process: capture demand from Product and Engineering, shape requirements, and prioritize the roadmap for integrated platform solutions.
Translate business and engineering needs into actionable designs and delivery plans.
Cross-Functional Orchestration
Partner with capability leads (Kubernetes, Kafka, CI/CD, etc.) to align on standards and delivery timelines.
Liaise with CIO infrastructure teams and partner tech groups to provision resources and wire solutions together.
Drive adoption of blueprints through developer onboarding, documentation, and evangelism.
Leadership & Influence
Act as the architectural authority for platform integration, influencing senior stakeholders across Product, Engineering, and CIO.
Communicate clearly from boardroom to whiteboard, securing buy-in for designs and roadmaps.
Published platform blueprints adopted across engineering teams.
Integrated golden paths reducing friction and accelerating delivery.
Clear intake model and roadmap for platform evolution.
Improved DORA metrics and developer satisfaction scores.
Strong alignment between Product, Engineering, and CIO on platform strategy.
What you bring
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or engineering or the equivalent combination of education, training, or work experience. Post-graduate education desired.
10+ years in platform/infrastructure engineering with 5+ years in leadership roles.
Proven experience in designing integrated platform architectures and managing demand at scale.
Strong understanding of:
Kubernetes ecosystems (AKS/EKS/GKE), service mesh, GitOps.
CI/CD pipelines, artifact management, policy-as-code.
Event streaming (Kafka/Confluent), schema governance.
Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), networking, identity/secrets.
Observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry).
Expertise in SDLC, DORA metrics, and developer experience optimization.
Exceptional stakeholder management, influencing skills, and ability to drive consensus across multiple technology domains.
